Our driving tour of one section of the #BRP near #Asheville started at 276 near Brevard, and ended at the bottom of 151 in Candler. Several stretches of America's most-visited National Park are still closed due to #Helene.

I'll post a second toot with info from the Park Service about damages and construction, all very interesting.

Another excellent, in-depth article on the state of the #FrenchBroad river in the #Asheville area, after #Helene. Apparently a good deal of the river is looking pretty good (if you're careful where you look) but I wouldn't set foot in it for a while personally.

I know they desperately want tourists back...

We drove the 13 miles open along the Blue Ridge Parkway in #Asheville from the NC Arboretum to the Folk Art Center today, the first time since everything has leafed back out.

It was a shock.

We'd gotten used to all the areas of trees downed by #Helene during the winter, but seeing large swathes with no trees, seeing sun along this beautiful road where there was nothing but dappled light previously was a sad thing. All over again.

So much has changed. And this is about the only stretch of the #BRP that's easy to get to now. We'll make an effort to do a longer loop soon, but it's complicated. So much lost.

"The National Weather Service is advising that the majority of #Buncombe County will receive approximately 2 inches of rain through 8 p.m. Tues. In eastern Buncombe County, that accumulation could be closer to 3 inches. The NWS advises that three inches or more of rain could initiate landslides on modified or developed slopes. Additional impacts include elevated lightning risks, especially in the southern and eastern parts of the county, along with fog in the east. This weather event is not predicted to have impacts like Helene, but nuisance flooding is possible. Remember - never drive through flooded roadways. "

Tomorrow, Saturday, will see many events across the US again, where you might go and find like-minded folks who are enraged at what is happening in our country. If you can, please seek them out.

Here in #Asheville in addition to the large "we are pissed and not going to accept this" area, will be an entire area with tables for local groups to showcase what they are actively doing to push back on the destruction.

For folks in the #Asheville and #NorthCarolina area, the Republican backed candidate for the #NC Supreme Court has won an appellate court ruling to throw out 65K votes in the race for a contested seat in our state's highest court.

Voters on this list must demand that they be taken off to be counted.
