On bad days, the constant reminders to move can feel discouraging rather than motivating. It would make a huge difference if the activity rings and goals could be fully customizable to accommodate individual abilities and needs.

To my fellow #Disabled and #ChronicPain warriors: What other areas do you think tech could be more inclusive? Whether it’s device features, apps, or software design, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Would you also be okay with me including your name or username and a quote from you in the blog post? I want to uplift your voices as part of the conversation.

Although this post is meant to elevate disabled voices, developers, designers, and usability experts are welcome to join the discussion and learn how to create more inclusive tech.

Let’s brainstorm ways to make tech work better for everyone! 🌟 Thank you in advance for sharing your insights!

<a Lanie Carmelo
Hey everyone! I'm curious to hear from fellow JAWS screen reader users about your favorite ways to utilize the Split Braille feature. Personally, I love using it in Outlook view—it allows me to quickly check my emails since I can read the text of the email on one side of my Braille display while having the message list on the other side.
What about you? What are your go-to uses for this feature? Flipboard
When assistive technology for people with physical disabilities is developed, the final users of it — its “pilots” — are often not involved until the very end. That’s why robotics expert Robert Riener launched the Cybathlon. The technotopian competition takes place every four years — the next tournament is this month in Switzerland and online — and involves eight events including the assistance robot race, in which pilots control a robot assistant from their wheelchairs and the brain-computer interface race, where pilots with quadriplegia use their thoughts to guide an animated avatar through an obstacle course. Serge from Babka
I have some pretty out-there ideas around assistive technology and learning disabilities.

For example, I believe all children should be taught phonics. This is the standard in most countries, but not in the US.

I believe that for children who have fine motor skill deficit, keyboards are great, but so are gliding pens, such as gel, or fountain pens.

I believe that for learning language, Esperanto can be an assistive technology, both for a foreign language, and even for someone who is struggling with English.

I think slide rules should make a return, and would ideally have a larger role than graphing calculators (are these still around?)

I think that privacy-respecting, FLOSS, and locally hosted AI can play a huge role in education, providing a host of services from explanations, to quizzing, to helping provide outlines and examples.

#Learning #AssistiveTechnology #LearningDisabilities
