I was "in the field" (doing research) with folks in the Ottawa valley who produce and source organic foods locally in 2019. People talked about connections with others, environmental issues in production and transportation, health issues, and food security/food sovereignty. I am thinking about those people now as we enter this trade war. They are ready. They have tapped into the bounty locally - and there is bounty! Check out your local farmers!

Goodies from a local farm today - I signed up for their CSA program and will be getting a weekly box from now til October!
Today’s goodies: lettuce, green peppers, yellow squash, two sizes of cucumbers, zucchini, and honey.

Here's an update from the same property, 5 years later.
This one household has grown connections to people all over the world. Inspiration flows out, support flows in.
Nearby towns are linking together to distribute their produce-- supporting the local economy, reducing their dependence on unsustainable supply chains, meeting their neighbors, and building community.

There is something poetic about being in the final stages of editing my thesis on the micropolitics of CSA as the first box of the season arrives! Scapes, salad, and significance simultaneously!
