mr_daemonOh my FUCKING GODI finished dumping 99.99% of a very old, damaged, backup CDROM that was previously unreadable. It took 3 days and I was super excited to find out what old data I put on it. The disc had UDF sessions, because that was common at the time for just Adding Files to non-rewritable media.So I mount that shit in my Windows 98SE box, and lo and behold, this is all that was on it.I would be absolutely upset if it wasn't so fucking funny<a href="https://untrusted.website/tags/cdrom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#cdrom</a> <a href="https://untrusted.website/tags/DataArchival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#DataArchival</a> <a href="https://untrusted.website/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#retrocomputing</a>

mr_daemonIn the process of dumping my old media, and my main takeaway so far is:20$ per disc Verbatim with the azo blue coating highest quality, stored properly, looks pristine: Mostly unreadable30$ per spindle of 300, Cursor Colorful brand shitty see through discs in 6 colors visible from planet neptune that explode if you expose them to direct sunlight, stored loose in a crate near the water heater, flaking off, visible dark spots and holes: reads 99.9% fine.azo = snake oil<a href="https://untrusted.website/tags/DataArchival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#DataArchival</a> <a href="https://untrusted.website/tags/cdrom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#cdrom</a>

Then don't even use iron in their blood, they're that ancient.
