My new presentation 🎙️ – “Data that does no harm: how to manage research data in wartime”.

👉 dx.doi.org/10.13140/RG.2.2.158

How can we ensure that research data doesn't put people at risk during war? This talk explores the CARE Principles as an ethical framework for protecting vulnerable communities – especially in Ukraine.

🔗 Based on our recent paper in Scientific Data: doi.org/10.1038/s41597-025-047

“By firing skilled human workers & replacing them w/spicy autocomplete, Musk is assuming his final form as both…kind of boss who can be conned into replacing you w/a defective chatbot *&* as…fast-talking sales rep who cons your boss. Musk is transforming key government functions into high-speed error-generating machines whose human minders are only the payroll to take the fall for the coming tsunami of robot fuckups.”

As our digital lives in the US become less stable and private, I wanted to figure out how to choose what search engine my browser uses.

I just added a new default search engine option for my Firefox on my MacBook (Mac OS).

1) add an extension to Firefox to allow me to add a different default search engine:
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firef

Next week, our #DigitalHistoryOFK starts again, and we can’t wait! 🎉

We’re excited to present a diverse and international program for the winter semester 2024/25. This semester will feature talks on #NFDI4Memory, #DataEthics, #QueerStudies, #GameStudies, #digitalSourceCriticism, and a variety of computational methods!

👉 Program: dhistory.hypotheses.org/digita

The colloquium will take place via Zoom and is open to everyone interested in #DigitalHistory & #DigitalHumanities!

I am reading theses that students worked on during the summer. #AI coding for #qualitative #research seems to be a common feature in tools like Atlas.ti now. This brings new challenges in assessment. Making transparent what the tool did for them & what constitutes their own contribution is something that students obviously have to learn and that doesn't come naturally. Also, AI coding raises problems of #dataethics. Any experiences & recommendations? onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/fu
