AI agents acting on behalf of human principals are supposed to lead us into a new age of productivity and convenience. The eloquence of AI-generated text and the narrative of super-human intelligence invite us to trust these systems more than we have trusted any human or algorithm ever before.It is difficult to know whether a machine is actually intelligent because of problems with construct validity, plagiarism, reproducibility and transferability in AI benchmarks. Mx VerdaI feel a compulsion to add to the "Who's Lila?" part. I'm autistic and would always make the "wrong" facial expressions. I live with this knowledge of causing inevitable offense: I am seen as the problem, rather than anyone else taking responsibility for their reactions to my inability to meet their self-centred expectations. I expected the first shot in Amnesia: The Bunker to be putting someone out of their misery. Hence the horror would be "you have the power to help others, but no possible future is worth experiencing for them. Yours is only in helping them escape". And the Utility Room inspires awe in me, and tragedy. You can't communicate with beings on another scale. You are so aberrant to their reality that your interactions with them are, at best, an unintentionally lethal perturbation. I understand that horror is deeply personal. I find resigned recognition in the giant head drawn to the player's (not quite) destruction, and the idea of mitigation only occurs after the paths' overlap are inescapable. I mean, it didn't have to be just like climate crises didn't have to be.
