The first US #scientists for “scientific asylum” arrived in #France: theguardian.com/education/2025
Others leave for #Canada and #China.
And they all fear for their families and deportation in their home country. "Some declined to speak to the media, while others asked that their full names not be used, offering a hint of how the Trump administration’s actions are sowing anxiety among academics."

@strypey Read more closely, please: I talked about #EuropeanAlternatives. Ghost is placed in Asia.
I'm a zero in IT, for your technical questions pls read their website. My newsletter is published in the web, you get it per email, and they have a plug-in for Wordpress (even with paywall), from there I could implement it here, even with podcasts (I don't use that).

It is especially for people who want a very easy to-go solution without any subscribing costs (they take money if income).

Good tutorial in French explaining the features and benefits of Hetzner's Storage Share service, a cloud storage solution that integrates with Nextcloud, a popular open-source file management platform.

From just €4.29 per month, you can get your own Nextcloud instance as an alternative to Google, Microsoft, etc. It comes with 1 TB of storage, unlimited users and is hosted in Europe.

It's not free, but neither are the US competitors — it's actually cheaper than Google One (10€) or Microsoft 365 (13€).

You don't need any IT skills to install it; just create an account, pay and start using it. 🙂

You can do it only for yourself or offer storage to family, friends and your community too.

☝️ Please welcome @pixelunion on Mastodon!

The Google Photos alternative PixelUnion, a hosted Immich solution based in Europe, made good on another of their promises to address the issues I pointed out in my feedback. They added an RSS feed to their blog and now joined Mastodon. They're also planning a guide for migrating from Google Photos as I also suggested.

Feedback to Big Tech platforms is slightly less effective.

OldBytes Space - MastodonPaolo Amoroso (@amoroso@oldbytes.space)PixelUnion is a brilliant Google Photos alternative: a hosted Immich solution based in Europe. Love the name. But there's no Google Photos import tool (seriously?) and I emailed them asking to please provide such an option. I also recommended that they join Mastodon and add an RSS feed to their blog (seriously?). https://pixelunion.eu #GooglePhotos #immich #EuropeanAlternatives

Cloud migration converts universities “from being a source of technical innovation and knowledge distribution to consumers of services”—a fundamental shift that undermines academic independence and transforms knowledge-producing institutions into service-consuming clients.

@C__CS writes on tensions between public interest and tech: techpolicy.press/clouds-over-p 🧵

Tech Policy Press · Clouds Over Public Infrastructure: Rethinking Internet Governance in the Hyperscaler Era | TechPolicy.PressDutch resistance to Amazon Web Services storage highlights global risks of hyperscaler cloud dominance, writes Dr. Corinne Cath.

This is an excellent article with a lot of useful information about how Infomaniak's sovereign cloud works:

"With more than 15 multi-data center cloud infrastructures, #Infomaniak is one of the few cloud providers in #Europe to master its data centers, develop its own technologies and guarantee sovereign #cloud services. This ensures a clear legal framework, a committed data confidentiality policy and job creation at local level while helping develop Europe’s technological independence. In this article, we explain what a cloud is, who its architects are and what criteria must be met to assert that a cloud is truly sovereign."
