iamBullivantThis is an interesting BBC R4 documentary about Dirty Old Town by Ewan MacColl, the various interpretations and the recordings of the song by the likes of the Dubliners and the Pogues.Ewan MacColl apparently said: "I don't know what the Irish are going to do with it because they are famous for making any song their song.' We had a sort of surrogate spotlight on the second one back in March, pointing to SpaceAce’s own post on that album,* so here we jump to the third. In memory of our dearly missed friend, let’s raise a glass and take a listen to number 479 in <a href="https://1001otheralbums.com/the-list/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The List</a>. This one is a collection of traditional sea shanties, and one of the many collaborations between <a href="https://www.ewanmaccoll.co.uk/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ewan MacColl</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._L._Lloyd" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">A. L. The title track has a racist word in a lyric describing an antislavery ship; the song appears to have originated during the slave trade.
