@helge yes, very interesting. I did not browse that deep when I dropped the link on your #FediverseIdea codeberg.org/fediverse/fediver

Think cc @jonny and @hrefna given neuromatch.social/@jonny/11174

From data model:

> An annotation is considered to be a set of connected resources, typically including a body and target, and conveys that the body is related to the target.

So "Annotate Object" may better indicate the applicability. Like me painstakingly quoting toots manually on a forum the other day.

Fiche de synthèse d'un ticket nommé "Annotate Document" dans le dépôt fediverse/fediverse-ideas
Codeberg.orgAnnotate DocumentWhen using Google Docs or similar tools, one has the option to leave comments on a document (see screenshot). There should be the Ability to share such comments using the Fediverse. As documents are often kept in source control, one could probably use [Forge Federation](https://forgefed.org/) ...

@phiofx @evan @steve

Yes, indeed. Suggesting great use cases for #LinkedData-based federated apps might be done in #FediverseIdea issues at: codeberg.org/fediverse/fediver

I think more general than your case would be connecting various #OpenScience tools to the #Fediverse, related to open publishing. A field where there's lotta interest. CC @jonny

There's a place where you can drop off these dreams so they may inspire others. It is part of #Fediverse repositories developer community where also the Fediverse Enhancement Proposals are kept. File a #FediverseIdea on the issue tracker of codeberg.org/fediverse/fediver

Interesting. Wasn't aware of ARK, but added a comment to a #FediverseIdea related to archiving of content:

codeberg.org/fediverse/fediver

Codeberg.orgFediVerse - Archive#### Summary Define a mechanism to take _"content"_ from the FediVerse and _archive_ it. Take into account how the content creator can consent / revoke consent. #### Motivation Currently, I am thinking of two main use cases: 1. __Account Migration__ Alice decides to migrate from the host _Abel_ to _Banach_. So she doesn't loose all her content created content on _Abel_, she archives it to the "Archive host" _Cantor_. _Cantor_ provides the functionality to look up Alice's old content by id. 2. __Quote a Conversation__ As part of [Issue 2: IdeationHub](https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediverse-ideas/issues/2), one might want to start of with a conversation on the FediVerse. So one wants to create an easily accessible version. Maybe even a version one can annotate. #### Challenges A. __Scope of Content__ Where does "content" end? For example if Alice creates her archive in _1. Account Migration_, does it include replies? Does it maybe only include references to replies? These references could become stale. Does it include references to replies + unique author id? B. __Consent__ If Alice wants to store Bob's reply, how does Alice ask Bob for consent? Keep in mind that a profile archive might contain contributions of lots and lots of people. C. __Lookup__ Again _1. Account Migration_: How can somebody discover that the archive exists when looking up Alice's content on Abel. D. __Modification__ Things change: Can these Archives? E. __Attachments__ How do you handle these? See also [Allow for binary data #4](https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediverse-ideas/issues/4) F. __Federation__ How do you federate archives? Federating the entire Archive seems like the wrong choice. #### Links - https://appdot.net/users/jgordon/statuses/110101021157299130 - https://metalsamurai.wordpress.com/2023/03/26/more-on-mastodon-and-portable-identities/

@brennansv @krzyzanowskim

As Brennan says it should be an #ActivityPub level recommendation, or Fediverse Enhancement Proposal ( #FEP ).

Looking at how Mastodon does it isn't the good approach. They are an app and mostly make app-specific decisions. From that perspective they might opt for html editing and integrate a ditto editor into their UI clients. And masto API-based clients must fall in line.

The FEP is at: codeberg.org/fediverse/fep

Or write a #FediverseIdea at: codeberg.org/fediverse/fediver

@dsfgs

This brings me to a #FediverseIdea to add to codeberg.org/fediverse/fediver ..

There's a range of characteristics that would be great to know about an instance and its management that aren't currently known, or easily available.

There should be something like a manifesto and checklist that's discoverable to figure out good from bad players. Stuff that helps do due dilligence before choosing your instance.

It might be part of NodeInfo 🤔

@pinkyfloyd @liaizon

This morning I bumped into a toot or lemmy post (can't find it now) about someone saying we need a proxy UI that takes care of all your identities in the various apps. And that is well possible.

For these kinds of thoughts there's the #FediverseIdea initiative started by @helge and to found at #Codeberg at: codeberg.org/fediverse/fediver

Here one might drop off such ideas so that others can follow-up with more info and - who knows - start a project to realize it in practice.

@dynamic don't think it exists (I co-maintain the #Fediverse-related lists at delightful.club )

I once found a Github #FOSS project that had built an almost complete #Stackoverflow alternative. Unfortunately couldn't find it later. It would be a great app to offer federation support. Your idea is good, and it can be generalized as a kind of themed PubSub fedi service.

There's a new #FediverseIdea initiative where you could post about this.. codeberg.org/fediverse/fediver
