Finished something a few weeks ago. And as always: no good pictures of me wearing the thing exist.

It's a knit shirt, based on the pattern "Green Machine" from an older #knitty issue. The yarn is Coast from Holst Yarn. I've made it a bit longer with mostly a longer lace portion to wear it as a normal shirt, not an additional layer.

At a gauge of 26 sts/10 cm it really is #slowfashion

yesterday's habi fiesta (weaver's fair).

I didn't buy anything because this wasn't in the budget -- these things tend to cost a lot -- but I did get some new ideas for my multi-way clothing concept. I'm sort of working on a line of clothes that adjust for different body types, heights, moods, etc.

also in the first pic, I'm wearing the fun floral vest I made from deadstock fabric and my fave blanc nué pillow bag in black with khaki straps.

If she could only sew one thing, Helen would choose: denim! 👖❤️

In this week's episode, we share a bunch of listener answers to the question, "If you could only sew one thing, what would it be?" And, of course, we share our own answers, too! Helen made an excellent choice. Denim is sturdy, but it wears in beautifully. It comes in every shade, but the indigo ones are the best. And it's so satisfying to finish it with beautiful topstitching. Here are some of Helen's denim me-mades:

👖 A pair of light wash denim #FalconerPants

👖 Dark wash #YantaOveralls

👖 An #AshtonTop mini-dress hack

👖 A patchwork shift dress made from three pairs of Sam's old jeans!

Do you like sewing with denim?

Blue bells shawl finished.

The last row is done in single crochet, leaving me with only a few m of yarn from a total of 1,250 m. Length is about my wingspan (1.6 m), width is 55 cm. Perfect for draping on a cool evening.

Free version of the pattern richtexturescrochet.com/blue-b - I skipped the picot edge.

Colors are a bit off - this is the yarn in the shop minimasche.de/products/bobbelj

New #crochet project - a hexagon or hexi cardigan.

They are all over the internet and this time I'm going with the trend. Mostly because I wanted to finally do another Granny project and this seemed like fun.

This is it so far - 17 rounds, with each hexagon requiring 33 or 34 rounds.

I hope I'll finish it before we go on vacation - seems to be an appropriate color for a seaside holiday.

Christine Millar (aka Sewstine) is a machine embroidery wizard! 🪄

In this week's episode, we ask her all of our burning machine embroidery questions. How does she design her own embroidery files? How long do the embroideries take? What stabilizer does she use? Does she have to babysit the machine the whole time? She answers them all, plus tells us about costuming events, her fave features of historical costumes, and her path to historical costuming.

Have you ever done machine embroidery?

Wearing Ease vs. Design Ease 📏

Ease is the extra width and length that pattern designers add into their pattern pieces. Wearing ease is the minimum ease that you add so that people can move around in their clothes. Design ease is added just for the look of it! For example, in Helen's most recent design, the #FalconerPants, there is minimum wearing ease from the waist to the hips - then there is design ease added to the legs to create the barrel shape!

To learn more about ease and how you can make it work for you, listen to this week's episode!

ZW Gather Dress by Birgitta Helmersson.

For something so simple I sure did take my time with it! I think I finished sewing at the end of last year (it's already on the 2024 makes post...) but did not make the buttonholes or add the buttons until the last few weeks.

Made from a thrifted duvet cover and is more of a wearable toile. For the next one I want to get a narrower width, longer top and not so low cut neckline.

The making itself was fairly painless, especially since I used Birgitta's tutorials on her blog to sew some of the trickier bits. Opted out of using the offcuts for reinforcement as that felt like unnecessary waff. I've already plans to make a blouse version of this too!

Feeling brave today and wearing this to work to see how it works in the day-to-day.

Outside in - inside out.

I've now finished the edges with attached I cord - the red yarn is a bit finer than the one I've done the cardigan with, a leftover from another project. Because it's finer I could attach it to each row / stitch without flaring

The ends are hanging all on one side for the moment, but I'm trying to weave them invisible so it can be worn from both sides because I still don't have a clear favorite

Many years ago, I was gifted a bag of bright wool, clearly quite "expensive" stuff. I was too intimidated to use it, but also too thrifty to give it away, so it languished. Someday, it will be a sweater! I took the leap during 2020 lockdown, following a very basic yoke pattern and making the colorwork up as I went.

I don't get to wear this sweater very often, because it's 100% wool, VERY warm, quite scratchy. But I adore it.

Cool hashtag - #ShowMeYourKnits with lace as the theme (at least that's what I understood). @LaVisch

This is a project from long ago, I was the project that started my journey into knitting garments from really, really fine yarns. In this case 100% silk with close to 600 m / 100 g from colour Mart. Knit with 4.0 mm needles.

I still have and wear it. And a lot of people don't believe it's handmade.

Suite du fil

Ich trage sehr oft selbstgemachte Kleidung, in den letzten Jahren allerdings mehr gestrickt als genäht.
Heute:
Pullover: "Virvel" by Lucienne Tricote
Halstuch: eigen, „Sophie“ nachempfunden
