It was bound to happen some day--I'm starting my dive into Home Assistant.
My wife wanted a doorbell for our house, I wanted to protect our privacy, so it was the gateway project to set things up. Now my wish list is full of various home automation widgets, and I'm trying to decide how far I want to go with home automation.
What are your favorite Home Assistant devices?
When we are younger, we don't want to go to school, because we'd rather be at home playing video games or something.
When we get older, we don't want to go to work, because we'd rather be tinkering with our home labs or home automation.
We're just bigger kids with more expensive toys.

Kennt jemand #Monoblock Klimadinger die sich zumindest rudimentär in #HomeAssistant einbinden lassen? Bzw jemand Erfahrung damit? Oder zumindest mit schaltbarer Steckdose kompatibel sind?

Mmh… where should I connect an ESP8266 to my doorbell to recognize someone being at the door, the speaker or the blinking LED? 
I really need that for HomeAssistant to relay the signal to my computer, I can't hear the damn doorbell with headphones on 75% of the time. 
Can't modify the doorbell itself though (belongs to the landlord), so I have to use clamps and a *very* flat cable to get the signal out of that box.

Need some #Homeassistant help... Tried for the past 3 hours to integrate the #AnkerSolix3 into the Energy Dashboard. But the Battery Part doesn't work for me.
Does anybody on here have managed to integrate it? As far as I saw it should be two template sensors generating readings for total charge- and discharge power and two Integration Sensors converting the aforementioned to kWh. Got all of that but the latter entities just show up as unavailable. Please boost for broader reach.

Nach interessanten Abschnitten und Ladevorgängen kann ich auch die Daten vom Display (und aus den Lade-Abrechnungen) händisch erfassen. Leider müssen dazu alle Türen geschlossen sein, aber mit der App #LabLog geht es dann immerhin recht flott.
Praktisch ist dabei die direkte Anbindung via #mqtt die so die Daten direkt im #SmartHomeServer wie z.B. #HomeAssistant verfügbar macht...
...bzw. in unserem Fall (alles auf einem #RaspberryPi mit #bash Skripten selbst implementiert) ressourcenschonend über einen cloud broker mit einem simplen mosquitto_sub ... >> eautolog.jsonl.

#Smartmeter-Frage: Ich habe einen Smartmeter mit LTE-Modul eingebaut bekommen und Stromnetz Berlin hat mir Zugangsdaten geschickt. Nice, denke ich. Doch: Das Auslesen der Daten scheint nur über eine obskure PTB-Software #TRuDI zu gehen (https://www.ptb.de/cms/ptb/fachabteilungen/abt2/fb-23/ag-234/info-center-234/trudi.html), die keine MacOS-Version bieten und mangels Hersteller-Signierung auf dem einzig mir zugänglichen Windows-Rechner nicht installierbar ist. Wie komme ich da jetzt an die Daten dran, am liebsten per #HomeAssistant-Integration? #SMGW
Let’s see if this #AnkerSolix3 system works as intended and whether or not I totally messed up #Homeassistant Integration. 
Alrighty, #HomeAssistant is rebooted, several add-ons disabled (will be fully removed after I'm sure I didn't break shit), and so far, it looks good.
Music over the connected speakers, pulling in from several sources. It pauses music to make an announcement, AND resumes playback, AND restores volume. AND, the important part... announcements when music isn't playing doesn't resume the last playing source. It's a tad slow going through pause, announce, resume though... but I can live with that.
In the #HomeAssistant settings for Cloud TTS, the preview has styes like sad, whispering, angry, etc.
I figured out I can pick a voice per automation, example SaraNeural. How would I pick those styles? It's in the preview, there MUST be a way in yaml to read a message in those styles

Ich habe das #blinkyparts Unicorn mit einem ESP8266 und einen Transistor per #ESPHome mit #homeassistant steuerbar gemacht. Jetzt blinkt es, wenn der Bewegungsmelder an der Gartentür auslöst und ich weiß das ich die Katzen reinlassen kann :) Danke an die lieben Menschen im @chaospott die mir bei der Erweiterung geholfen haben. Für mich war es das erste Mal, dass ich bei einem Lötprojekt von der Blaupause abgewichen bin 
Boy, that's annoying - every 3D printing integration I have returns print time in a different way. Bambu: minutes remaining. Flashforge: it doesn't. Prusa: an actual date/time.

Is there a way to get Home Assistant to behave like Google Assistant, like with speech-to-text commands and queries?
Like, when I used Google Assistant, I was able to say "Hey Google, give me directions to the nearest Dunkin'". Does Home Assistant have that capability with plugins and such?
oops #til to use #duckdb to query a CSV, generate date ranges, use windowing functions to backfill data and pivot functions to make data that you can easily graph in a spreadsheet.
