une clôture en dentelle

A resident of Hamnavoe, Shetland Islands in Scotland, Anne Eunson decided to knit herself a beautiful lace fence using twine. The fence is fashioned from strong black twine – the same kind that is used to make fishing nets – and Anne knitted it on specially adapted curtain rods in about three weeks to knit enough lace to surround her front garden, using a 23 stitch repeat of a familiar Shetland lace pattern.

Habitante de Hamnavoe, dans les îles Shetland en Écosse, Anne Eunson a décidé de tricoter une magnifique clôture en dentelle avec de la ficelle. La clôture est confectionnée en ficelle noire résistante – la même que celle utilisée pour fabriquer les filets de pêche – et Anne l’a tricotée sur des tringles à rideaux spécialement adaptées. Il lui a fallu environ trois semaines pour tricoter suffisamment de dentelle pour entourer son jardin, en utilisant une répétition de 23 points d’un motif de dentelle Shetland familier.

Y'all remember that lace safety vest that a cyclist was wearing a while back? Everyone sent it to me because #Lace .

I had no idea where it came from, but I loved it. Recently a vendor of them popped into my feed. I decided to try one to see if it was legit.

It's very nice. I'm not selling them, I'm not pushing them, I'm just saying if you like to lace in safety now you can....

I'm kind of impressed with the quality.

The fluorescent yellow "lace safety" vest. It is a pretty decent machine lace with netting in bright yellow. It has a yellow sturdy zipper in the front. It has reflective gray tape over the shoulders and in 2 bands along the midriff. It looks super yellow inside my house laying flat on my ottoman.

Sometimes people ask me if I make lace shawls on request. The answer is yes and no. I don’t take paid commissions because you’d never want to pay the worth of my work. But if you are the tiniest bit nice to me and show a modicum of interest in what I do, and I know where to find you, lace may be thrust upon you.

This is what happened to my aunt Annica. She had an even birthday last year, and also came to my summer exhibition at Nääs castle. At that exhibition she expressed an interest in my work and jokingly asked what kind of a bribe I needed to make one for her. We discussed colours and patterns. She was joking, I was not. Now, a year later, she is my excuse for my latest improvised stash buster: a triangle petrol lace shawl with a black border. It’s very soft and pretty big, so I hope she will like it!

Holy #BobbinLace Gods! Alex Stillwell has made a number of her really high quality books and pamphlets available for download.

At least one of them is really hard to find in print now. Someone in my lace group wanted a copy of that Floral Bucks Point and couldn't find it for sale.

These are wonderful. Get them if you lace.

We got a #lace donation box from someone this week, and I was trying to go through it and sort it out a little bit.

My "helper" thought it would be useful to sit right in it. This did not help.

But I realized that calico cats are perfectly camouflaged for a donated cardboard box of black and white Victorian laces.... It's a good choice, really.

In an old cardboard box, black lace trim is hung on the box flap at the top, and piles of black and white and beige looking lace are randomly sitting in the bottom half of the box. A nuisance calico cat has decided it's a good place for a sit and she's taking up about half the box, making it impossible to pull lace out of the box I'm trying to sort. But her colors match the cardboard and the lace pieces kind of well. It's a good spot to hide a calico if you wanted to hide one.

Posting this one again because I was unhappy with the sleeves and redid them.
The old sleeves were too solid, and I decided to make more squares and it turned out much better in my opinion. I saved the shoulder joint from the old ones, just because I was lazy.

Now, off with this one to the recipient. Hope she likes it!

I used to think I couldn’t come up with spontaneous art ideas. Like I was stunted and naturally didn’t have a sense of vision.
Turns out I was just untrained, and what feels like an artistic gift from the outside is actually a mental muscle that can be trained. Now my problem is I have too many ideas instead.
One of them was this: a little folklore piece inspired by Bohusdräkten in western Sweden. It’s meant for one of my nieces, unasked for but hopefully appreciated. It’s adjustable, from the lacing to extra material in the shoulders and waist. So hopefully she can wear it for a few years.
In Sweden we have this debate about headwear with folk costume. To wear or not to wear. But inspired by Norwegian tradition I decided to make her a little hair band with lace in a matching material to wear with the dress. And the thought struck me that adults could wear that too! I’m trying to make it a thing.
I’ve not weaved the fabrics or constructed the zipper but I’ve made everything else myself. The embroidery, the lacing, the lace, the hooks for closing, even the aglets to thread the string in front.
I hope she and her parents like it and that maybe when she is too big for it she can lend it to her cousin or potential siblings.

I finished these wrist warmers in the spring, but never found the time to show them off. Now the time has come!
They are a mismatched, crocheted, improvised pair of necessities that I did because I had no WIP while away from my stash. I can’t keep my hands still, I need a project.
The basic principle of the design is: rectangle as wide as your wrist and as long as you want them, measuring from the knuckles. Do a bunch of lace patterns, repeating or not, and edge the whole thing when it reaches the above measurements. Then sew up the side and leave a hole for the thumb. Et voilà, the summer’s most dramatic accessory accomplished!
