I know there's a handful of manufacturers offering Linux hardware and they all seem great. My number one requirement is great battery life. I want to be able to be mobile and not be constantly worrying about where outlets are. </p><p>My use case: small projects, shorter video playback (quick yt tutorial, class videos but not necessarily looking for 4k movie playback), light gaming meaning like maybe some GBA emulators not AAA titles or competitive online stuff. </p><p>Does anyone have any real world use cases wrt battery life for System76, Tuxedo, Framework, Starlabs laptops?</p>
OMG! Ubuntu!<p>Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 (Linux Edition) Goes on Sale</p><p>Huawei&nbsp;has unwrapped its latest Linux notebook, the&nbsp;MateBook X Pro 2024 Linux Edition — alas, it’s only available in China. The Windows-free MateBook X Pro 2024 uses the exact same hardware as the Windows version, but clocks in at CN¥300 cheaper owing to the lack of Windows license fee and a national subsidy for non-Western tech. Chinese consumers can reportedly claim an extra discount of CN¥2000 on the purchase price as part of a national subsidy to promote usage of homegrown tech. With US sanctions in play, Microsoft is reportedly not renewing its deal to supply Huawei with Windows licenses once :sys_more_orange:<br><a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Hardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hardware</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/News" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>News</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Huawei" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Huawei</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Kylin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kylin</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/LinuxLaptops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LinuxLaptops</span></a> </p><p>:sys_omgubuntu: <a href="https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/05/huawei-matebook-x-pro-2024-linux-edition-goes-on-sale" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/05/huawei</span><span class="invisible">-matebook-x-pro-2024-linux-edition-goes-on-sale</span></a></p>

OMG! Ubuntu!<p>KDE Slimbook VI – A Powerful Laptop for KDE Enthusiasts</p><p>Looking for a powerful new Linux laptop? The new KDE Slimbook VI may very well appeal. Unveiled at Akademy 2024, KDE’s annual community get-together, the KDE Slimbook VI marks a major refresh from earlier models in the KDE Slimbook line. And this thing ain’t no slouch – a dedicated benchmark page shows how this model compares to the preceding versions (spoiler: better). The 16-inch KDE Slimbook VI is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS CPU with integrated NPU for local AI/ML workloads. Graphics are integrated but are well above the usual iGPU fare, with 12-cores, a high clock speed, :sys_more_orange:<br><a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Hardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hardware</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/News" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>News</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Kde" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kde</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/LinuxLaptops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LinuxLaptops</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Slimbook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Slimbook</span></a> </p><p>:sys_omgubuntu: <a href="https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/09/kde-slimbook-vi-a-powerful-laptop-for-kde-enthusiasts" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/09/kde-sl</span><span class="invisible">imbook-vi-a-powerful-laptop-for-kde-enthusiasts</span></a></p>
OMG! Ubuntu!<p>CrowView Note: A Laptop that isn’t a Laptop, Yet is Way More Useful</p><p>Ever wished you could use your Raspberry Pi 5, Android smartphone, or mini PC as a laptop? Using the CrowView Note, which launched on Kickstarter last week, you can. From a cursory glance Elecrow’s CrowView Note looks like a regular laptop. It has a 14.1-inch screen, a full-size keyboard, a roomy touchpad, and USB and HDMI ports along the sides (and though you can’t see it, it has a built-in battery too). CrowView Note is an affordable portable monitor with a novel form factor – and as a Pi owner, I dig it But it’s not a laptop. OMG! Ubuntu!<p>Framework Laptop RISC-V Motherboard Announced</p><p>Those of you who own a Framework Laptop 13 —consider me jealous, btw— or are considering buying one, you may be intrigued to hear that a RISC-V motherboard option is in the works. DeepComputing, the company behind the recently-announced Ubuntu RISC-V laptop, is working with Framework Computer Inc, the company behind the popular, modular, and Linux-friendly Framework laptops, on a RISC-V mainboard option. As this is hot of the press and in early development there’s no price or pre-order date yet. But we do know is will be based around the StarFive JH7110 with 4 U74 RISC-V cores. OMG! Ubuntu!<p>The World’s First RISC-V Laptop Running Ubuntu</p><p>A RISC-V laptop preloaded with Ubuntu is in development, and Canonical is involved. The DC-ROMA RISC-V Laptop II is made by DeepComputing, a company formed by self-described “RISC-V pioneers” back in 2022, and based in Hong Kong. Their aim: develop and release all kinds of products to help drive development of the RISC-V ecosystem. And this is the second-generation version of their DC-ROMA laptop, though the first to run Ubuntu. This laptop is powered by the SpacemiT K1 system-on-a-chip, which packs 8 64-bit RISC-V cores running at 2.0GHz. This supports the RVA 22 Profile RVV 1.0 for “high performance computing”, :sys_more_orange:<br><a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Hardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hardware</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/News" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>News</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Canonical" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Canonical</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/LinuxLaptops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LinuxLaptops</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Risc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Risc</span></a>-V </p><p>:sys_omgubuntu: <a href="https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/06/the-worlds-first-risc-v-laptop-running-ubuntu" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/06/the-wo</span><span class="invisible">rlds-first-risc-v-laptop-running-ubuntu</span></a></p>
OMG! Ubuntu!<p>TUXEDO&nbsp;Working on Snapdragon X Elite Linux Laptop</p><p>Linux laptop vendor TUXEDO has confirmed plans to release a Linux ARM laptop based on the Snapdragon X Elite SoC. It recently showcased a prototype of a new ARM notebook at Computex, the annual computer event in Taiwan. Powered by the Snapdragon X Elite and running an ARM port of their Ubuntu-based TUXEDO OS with the KDE Plasma desktop. This is the same chip that’s been in the (tech) news a lot of late as it’s powering Microsoft’s new wave of Copilot+ laptops running Windows 11 ARM. Like Apple Silicon, the X Elite has CPU, GPU, NPU and memory all :sys_more_orange:<br><a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Hardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hardware</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/News" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>News</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Arm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Arm</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/ArmLaptops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ArmLaptops</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/LinuxLaptops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LinuxLaptops</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Snapdragon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Snapdragon</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Tuxedo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tuxedo</span></a> </p><p>:sys_omgubuntu: <a href="https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/06/tuxedo-working-on-snapdragon-x-elite-linux-laptop" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/06/tuxedo</span><span class="invisible">-working-on-snapdragon-x-elite-linux-laptop</span></a></p>

Ubuntu!<p>TUXEDO Pulse 14&nbsp;Linux Laptop Refreshed with AMD Ryzen 7</p><p>If you’re looking to buy a new Linux laptop that has a decent balance of performance and affordability, check out the latest offering from European company TUXEDO Computers. The latest model is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS, integrated AMD Radeon 780M graphics, and a sizeable 32 GB LPDDR5-6400 RAM. Storage-wise, the base config comes with a 500GB NVMe SSD, with TUXEDO OS (based on Ubuntu LTS) preinstalled, though other distros are available.
