Adding some simple MIDI control to the Arduino Nano AY-3-8910 setup.

Part 6 pairs the Synth module with a XIAO expander for some simple IO.

And whilst on the topic of SAM2695 devices, here is a short play with the M5 Stack MIDI Synth using essentially all the same principles of the set of other XIAO posts.

And this is the serial MIDI version of part 4, but this time I'm back with the original XIAO ESP32-C3.
https://diyelectromusic.com/2025/06/28/xiao-esp32-c3-midi-synthesizer-part-5/
And part 4 goes back to using the XIAO SAMD21 in the XIAO Synth to create a simple synth module with buttons for voice selection and volume control.

Part 3 takes a deeper look at the SAM2695 synth chip itself.

In this one, I've replaced the provided XIAO ESP32-C3 with a XIAO SAMD21 and got it talking USB MIDI, first as a device, then as a host.

First steps with the XIAO ESP32-C3 and SAM2965 based Synth module.

Venomode releases Phrasebox 2 phrase arpeggiator plugin https://rekkerd.org/venomode-releases-phrasebox-2-phrase-arpeggiator-plugin/
The folks at #juce have just released a preview branch that includes support for #MIDI 2.0 UMP messages (featuring much higher data resolution and a ton of completely new message types and capabilities) on all supported platforms -- a big day!

And, so finally, I've done something that at least hints of being musical with my Atari Paddles.
This shows how to use them as a MIDI CC controller.

Steinberg's Cubase was the standard for music production software on the Atari ST in the late 80s/early 90s for professional and hobby musicians alike (if they could afford the software...).
However, it seems to be hard to find files with actual music created with Cubase nowadays (.all/.arr file formats). Is there an archive of Cubase-created songs somewhere? Ideally some 1980s synthpop/new wave style music to run a demo in our retrocomputing lab next week.
I'm convinced that anyone who enjoys playing with #modularsynth is very much in touch with their inner child.
Because let me tell you, my inner 8 year old is practically SQUEE-ing with delight at the teeny tiny little VCO <-> Delay <-> Sequencer loop I created using #vcvrack
Make no mistake, you can't dance to this, and it's not THAT cool on its face... BUT I made it in 3-4 minutes of twiddling, and I am having a BALL with this software.
My hope is that this will eventually wend its way back to the Akai #midi keyboard I tried to teach myself to play piano on, and I think it will, but for now I am enjoying making crazy sounds with voltage, oscillators and the like immensely.
