1/ As #winter in the #mountains winds down, I am concluding my fifth year of #snowshoeing in the mountains. So many great memories, so much to reflect. Perfect evening on the Columbia Gorge last week.

Another Cradle Mountain shot for the #MountainMonday and #MonochromeMonday together. Sorry, that's a lot of Cradle but can it really be too many..?
Anyway, I liked this one for the simplicity and the mist layer making this image.

Cradle Mountain in black and white. The mountains are dark and silhouetted against a brighter clear sky. The Dove Lake has some mist and it swirls in front of the mountains in the middle. The reflection is almost perfect.

Witnessing some big mountain changes recently. Warmer temps pushing snow off the rock layers underneath. Photos taken around Alpental, WA; an area known for its steep avalanche terrain at low elevation. First two from a few weeks ago, third one is from yesterday.

In the middle of the picture shows a divided snowpack, split and slowly sliding down slope.

Signs of the power of recent avalanche filling the valley below. A snowy landscape featuring an avalanche area where snow has spilled into the terrain, surrounded by evergreen trees.

#MountainMonday is here and so is a timely image - the Border Peaks.

Split down the middle of the saddle is the line that forms the #US and #Canadian borders known as the 49th Parallel - the largest unprotected border in the world. With some tension increasing, I hope that everyone continues to remember the things that bring us all together, and not those that divide.

The Canadian and American border peaks at the 49th Parallel between British Columbia and Washington. The monochrome image shows the steep jagged faces of these mountains highlighted by annual snow deposits that remain throughout the summer. The American peak is on the left, and the Canadian on the right. The sky appears darkened as haze from the nearby ocean provides haze that obscured the lower altitude sky.

The most snow I've ever seen while atop my favorite mountain.

Mt Hood as seen from the summit of Silver Star. A view of boot prints in the snow down the summit ridge. The southern prominence is untouched smooth snow.

A classic "3 volcanoes" shot of Tahoma, Looit, and Pahto. The rugged Gifford Pinchot rolls towards the horizon.

The Bluff mountain ridgeline trail runs east from Silver Star. If you look closely you can follow it as it disappears and reappears from snow drifts.

Happy #MountainMonday! The point seen off in the distance is where I was headed as I began my descent last week from the summit shown in the pic at the beginning of this thread. The #snow/#ice-covered trail winds along the edge of a steep slope (including a cliff) before it disappears into the woods. Harsh conditions- blowing hard, snowing, frigid wind chill. A fun challenge! #hiking #mountains #nature
