Naming a school after someone is not about preserving history, which is permanent and unchangeable, it is a mark of honour.

Of the billions of people who have lived in the world, a tiny tiny fraction have things named after them. It is, when yiu really think of it, a gigantic honour.

But honour is always subjective and current, so if it no longer seems the person is honourable based on newly discovered or understood history then the proper thing to do is remove the honour.

That becomes part of the history which must be preserved and told.

Racist, violent, colonialists do not deserve to be honoured.

Greetings and good evening! I need help down here in #Georgia. My #trans (adult) child is trying to change their name, and we aren't sure whether the #petition needs to be #notarized or not. The clerk won't answer any questions. The form itself doesn't appear to have space for a notary stamp. Can anyone with #legal knowledge or who has done a #NameChange here let us know? We really don't want to have to re-file after January 😬 thank you!! #askFedi #fediHelp #law #lawyer #question :boost_ok:

So, for everyone looking into email providers, I just want to shout out posteo.de for something that *every* webservice "should" be able to do, but frequently don't!
Pre-transition I was one of those folx who used a username that was legal name derived for *everything*, and my email account with them was no exception. They let you make up to 3 aliases with every account, so it was easy to give friends and family an alternate address when I came out, but I was not ready for the headache of asking them to let me change my username/primary email as there is no obvious way to do this on their webapp.
I finally got around to emailing their support team asking last night. Today they had activated a "change account name" feature on their webapp, which let me put in a new username, and it automatically kept my *old* email address as an alias so I won't miss anything sent to the wrong place. It was easy and painless. Had to update my client to the new username, and I was good to go!
I understand why that's not something to necessarily let people accidently discover, so I don't mind that I had to email to ask. But if you have a posteo account and need to change your username, it *absolutely can be done*!!
