Terence Eden<p>I've managed to get a basic bot posting to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Threads" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Threads</span></a>. <br>Only problem is, the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OpenGraphProtocol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenGraphProtocol</span></a> images aren't being picked up.</p><p>Any ideas why?<br><a href="https://www.threads.net/@openbenches_org/post/DB6FZ3SskCM" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">threads.net/@openbenches_org/p</span><span class="invisible">ost/DB6FZ3SskCM</span></a></p>
Terence Eden<p>Hey <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/WebDev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WebDev</span></a> friends.</p><p>I have a question for you 😃 </p><p>Without looking up any documentation or examples, which of these <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OpenGraphProtocol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenGraphProtocol</span></a> declarations is correct?</p><p>(I'm looking for your first instinctive answer.)</p>
Terence Eden<p>If you share a link to my blog - shkspr.mobi - Mastodon will now let people see that I wrote it.</p><p><a href="https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2024/07/highlighting-journalism-on-mastodon/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">blog.joinmastodon.org/2024/07/</span><span class="invisible">highlighting-journalism-on-mastodon/</span></a></p><p>This is a great move for the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OpenWeb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenWeb</span></a> - and it is brilliant to finally move away from the moribund <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OpenGraphProtocol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenGraphProtocol</span></a>.</p>
Terence Eden<p>Just a point on the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/QuoteToot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>QuoteToot</span></a> stuff.</p><p>ActivityPub servers which present proper <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OpenGraphProtocol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenGraphProtocol</span></a> tags *already* show as QT.</p><p>It's right there in the page's source code but only (partially) exposed in the UI.</p>
Aslak Raanes<p>Hadde ikke <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/NRK" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NRK</span></a> vært så glade i klikk, så ville de kanskje valgt et foto av selve viltgjerdet i <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Dunderlandsdalen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Dunderlandsdalen</span></a> istedenfor å fylle artikkelen med foto av elgkadavre.</p><p>Spesifikt har de valgt <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/opg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opg</span></a> / <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/opengraphprotocol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opengraphprotocol</span></a> `og:image` som inneholder bilde av en mann som holder et ihjelkjørt elgfoster. Terence Eden<p>One of the last things I was working on with Twitter's <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DevRel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DevRel</span></a> team was an enhancement to cards - to be known as Twitter Tiles.</p><p>This would have involved creating new <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OpenGraphProtocol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenGraphProtocol</span></a> tags. Hencebmy post at <a href="https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2022/11/is-open-graph-protocol-dead/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">shkspr.mobi/blog/2022/11/is-op</span><span class="invisible">en-graph-protocol-dead/</span></a></p><p>Could have been really great for two-way content flow. But looks like another thing they've killed off.</p>
Aslak Raanes<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@Edent" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Edent</span></a></span> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://prodromou.pub/@evan" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>evan</span></a></span> <br>Yes, but it seems that «my» instance (mastodon.social) doesn't add <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/opengraphprotocol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opengraphprotocol</span></a> `og:image` from articles like <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/help/insideguardian/2019/apr/02/why-were-making-the-age-of-our-journalism-clearer" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/help/insidegua</span><span class="invisible">rdian/2019/apr/02/why-were-making-the-age-of-our-journalism-clearer</span></a></p>
Aslak Raanes<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://prodromou.pub/@evan" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>evan</span></a></span> Maybe <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@Edent" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Edent</span></a></span> can chime in on his experiences with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OpenGraphProtocol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenGraphProtocol</span></a> and fediverse/mastodon <a href="https://mastodon.social/@Edent/109296896721405316" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">mastodon.social/@Edent/1092968</span><span class="invisible">96721405316</span></a></p>
Terence Eden<p>I wrote that blog post because I was doing some work with a different social media site. They were looking at improving how oEmbed works.<br>I guess all that work has stopped now…</p><p>Sooooo - should the Fediverse start defining more <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OpenGraphProtocol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenGraphProtocol</span></a> vocabularies?<br>Are there any standards groups I should be involved with?</p>
