The leader of my Tuesday palaeography group set us a little challenge: attempt a flourished signature in the style of early modern English letters. I have tipped past the point of "ooh, how fun!" to "do I have time to cure and cut a quill before meeting, because that MUST be the key". 😭

And no, I will not be attempting my too-many-curves surname today. 😖

[Original example on left, my increasingly frustrated attempts on right]

Definitely asked before, but what are your recommended applications (or homegrown systems/procedures) for palaeographical transcription?

Most of what I've done has been in in-house repositories, FromThePage, etc. I have some projects coming up where I need to be more self-hosted, as it were. I currently use a Mac, and my potential list includes Tropy, GenScriber, and Transcript.

Thoughts? Comments? Recommendations?

Just realized all the hashtags are supposed to be in an #intro post, not my bio. Better very late than never?

Curious about basically everything but in particular: #animals #finance #fashion #art #calligraphy #illumination #politics #CocktailRecipes #cooking #paleography #languages #gardening #poetry #corvids

Fiction: #fantasy #sf #sff #PeriodRomance (particularly non-European). Non-fiction runs the gamut.

Long-time #NYC resident, recently returned to #Boulder #CO; looking for local friends!

We're getting ready to roll out another oepoetryfacsimile.org edition this week - this one is a combined edition of Paris Psalm 102 and the accompanying Junius 121 verses of the same.

The latter was glossed by the so-called Tremulous Hand, and provided us with a fun #paleography game. We call it "What the Heck Did TH Write This Time?!"

Give your best guess and we'll post the answer later.
