La gémination est le redoublement d'une consonne qu'on entend à l'oreille. Ainsi, en espagnol : pero est différent de perro, par le phénomène de gémination. C'est très rare en français, mais on l'entend dans "Allah" par exemple, qu'on prononce avec 2 l, pas comme dans "alla", passé simple de "aller"

À l’écrit on peut avoir besoin de plusieurs lettres pour faire une seul son vocalique (ex. : les lettres <ou> font le son [u]). Il y a grosso modo +/- 14 voyelles, mais selon la région il peut y en avoir plus. C’est là que ça se complique.

Ces défis concernent 1) la quantité et la diversité des données, 2) les métadonnées et 3) le traitement des données par la plateforme.
