Police, Pride, and Impartiality

The court ruled that police participation in Pride violated the principle of impartiality. Lindsey Smith won her case against Northumbria Police. A precedent that changes the rules of the game.

Today in Labor History July 15, 1984: Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) was founded in London. They called for LGBTQ folks who were interested in solidarity work to create a network to support the nationwide miners’ strike. Eleven people attended the initial meeting, but the organization would grow rapidly, providing considerable financial support and solidarity work, building a lasting link between the labor and LGBTQ movements. In 1985, the London Pride parade was led by a contingent of miners.

I took my vintage (600 series) #Polaroid camera to #Bristol #Pride on Saturday and all I got were these bloody awesome photographs! You were all fabulous!

At the local #Pride parade in #Carlow today.
Smashing day and fantastic turnout for such a small town. Local businesses and An Garda Síochána playing a vital Role. Proud to say that my own party, the #SocialDemocrats Ireland were the only political party with proper representation in the parade.
