Jusque là, la substance n’avait été administrée qu’à des rats. Ses effets psychotropes ( = qui modifient l’état de conscience) n’avaient donc pas été découverts. Or ce jour là, en manipulant le produit, Hofmann se touche sans y prendre garde la bouche. Le <a href="https://peculiar.florist/tags/LSD" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#LSD</a> est actif à des doses de l’ordre du microgramme (il faut 1000mcg pour faire 1 milligramme). L’infime quantité qu’il a donc sur les doigts va suffire à provoquer des effets intenses. D’abord une sensation de vertige, puis de l’agitation. S’il ferme les yeux, « des images fantastiques, d’une plasticité extraordinaire et d’une couleur intense semblait surgir vers moi. » Au bout de deux heures, les effets s’estompent. Hofmann, émerveillé par la substance, va immédiatement se lancer dans une série d’expériences que je vous raconterai dans 3 jours, pour fêter cette fois le « bicycle day », qui commémore la première prise volontaire de LSD de l’histoire, et croyez moi, ça ne va pas être de tout repos !! Le 16 avril est en tout cas une date scientifique particulièrement importante, puisque le LSD deviendra rapidement l’un des médicaments les plus étudiés au monde jusque dans les années 1970, participera à faire évoluer la psychiatrie, permettra d’approfondir considérablement les connaissances sur les neurotransmetteurs, accompagnera l’émergence des techniques du care et des soins palliatifs, entre autres ! Une thérapie psychédélique nécessite trop de moyens. Après les séances de préparation, un espace dédié, cosy et sécurisant doit être mis en place et un ou deux accompagnants compétents doivent être présents auprès du/de la patient.e sur toute la durée de la séance, soit 6h pour la psylocibine et au moins 12h pour le LSD ou la mescaline. L'hôpital n'a pas les moyens.
