What kindness have you seen from volunteers?
“At @RepairCafe_Barry we have an Autistic boy who comes in every month with his teddy. One of our volunteers spotted a very similar teddy in a charity shop for £1 and bought it for spare parts as needed.”
What a kind volunteer to be thinking about the repair cafe and that boy specifically while going about their everyday!

A #ZeroWaste roll! I made my first experience with a #RepairCafe and it was bombastic! To give justice to this #Bosch food processor, it survived 10 years of intensive use, but I could easily identify #design patterns that made it harder to repair with no obvious benefit. And I learned that a simpleton like me can totally learn how to repair stuff and it’s a lot of fun. Big kudos to the volunteer who stayed overtime to bring this old gizmo back to life. He had worked for Shell his entire life and, once retired, decided to do something for the environment and learn how to fix things to reduce waste.

We are off to a Repair Cafe workshop today. It will be an all day thing set up for those new to Repair Cafes to learn about how it works, what is needed, and how to set one up.
We're not there to learn much, though we might, but we are involved in some of the talks and demonstrations on setting up, basic repairing, and tools.
There will probably be a lot of anecdotes shared.
I think I will be very out of spoons by the time we get home.

Just been to a repair café where I volunteer as a fixer, where I had the pleasure of being able to talk to some members of the public while they waited about Microsoft ending their support for Windows 10, and showing them how Linux is capable of everything they do on their PCs on a day-to-day basis, and that they can save their machines from being thrown out.
My local repair cafés will hopefully be running their own installation events, but @Endof10 is coordinating a global campaign if you want to find an installation event near you.
Spent this morning helping at Wellingborough Repair Cafe. We were in the big hall today, so it never felt super busy. But we got through a good number of repairs. 2 sewing machines, 2 CD/Cassette/Radios (1 fixed, 1 not), 2 coats, a Dyson vacuum, a water pump, a toaster, a Ninja multi cooker, a halogen heater, and probably at least one more thing that I’ve forgotten. #RepairCafe
Thank you to everyone who attended our July repair café, we had donations of £84.05.
We’re so grateful to our generous community as your donations enable us to keep running. This month we'll be spending it on PAT test training for our volunteers, consumables, parking for our volunteers, and refills for our cafe.
We can't wait to be back at Barry Library on Saturday 1st August from 10am until 1pm.
