Late Friday morning, at the #university’s request, a federal judge in Boston moved swiftly to block implementation of the #Trump admin’s order.

The judge, Allison D. Burroughs issued a temporary restraining order [#TRO] against the federal edict, agreeing that #Harvard had shown that its implementation would cause “immediate & irreparable injury” to the university.

[Saying the quiet part out loud] … Representative #JasonSmith, a #Missouri #Republican who leads the Ways and Means Committee, framed the #tax increase not as a matter of fiscal prudence but as a way to “end insane woke ideology.”

The increases, William Gale added, “feel very punitive.”

Those increases would go toward covering some of the cost of what is otherwise a broad #tax cut. But in some cases, the amount of additional revenue the #government would derive is relatively minor, while the effect on those targeted with a tax increase could be significant.

“Your role is not to secure convictions at all costs, nor to satisfy public clamor, nor to advance political agendas,” Judge Espinosa said. “Your allegiance is to the #impartial application of the law, to the pursuit of truth & to the upholding of #DueProcess for all.”

Dismissing the case, Demanovich responded, “was the most appropriate resolution in the interest of justice.”

“An arrest of a public figure is not a preliminary investigative tool. It is a severe action,” US Magistrate Judge Andre M. Espinosa told Assistant #USAttorney Stephen Demanovich during a virtual court hearing. “It should only be undertaken after a thorough, dispassionate investigation of credible evidence.

This whole thing is ridiculous. #DOJ is saying that after the congresswoman assaulted #ICE agents they then gave them a tour?

And why did it take 10 days for them to decide that Rep #LaMonicaMcIver had assaulted federal agents?

Oh right, because #KristiNoem started lying about it on TV. Got it.

#Republicans have seized on the episode to portray #Democrats as more interested in protecting the #immigrants w/criminal records they said are being held inside the facility than US citizens.

On TV & social media, DHS ofcls have for days accused the lawmakers of “storming” into the facility, suggesting last week that assault charges were looming. The agency shared a video on X that it says shows Rep. McIver assaulting an #ICE agent.

…Paul J. Fishman, a lawyer for Rep. McIver, who previously served as #USattorney for the District of #NJ called the decision to charge the congresswoman “spectacularly inappropriate.”

“As a member of #Congress, she has the right & responsibility to see how #ICE is treating detainees. Rather than facilitating that inspection, ICE agents chose to escalate what should have been a peaceful situation into chaos.”

“The charges against me are purely political—they mischaracterize & distort my actions, & are meant to #criminalize & deter #legislative #oversight,” she said.

#AlinaHabba also announced that she had dismissed a misdemeanor charge for trespass against #RasBaraka, the Democratic mayor of #Newark, whose arrest had precipitated the flare-up w/federal agents after he sought to join the lawmakers on their tour of the detention center.

“No one is above the law—politicians or otherwise,”[except #Trump] #AlinaHabba said in a statement. “It is the job of this office to uphold *justice* *impartially*, regardless of who you are. Now we will let the justice system work.”

In a statement on Monday, Rep #LaMonicaMcIver blamed federal law enforcement for instigating the clash, saying that “#ICE agents created an unnecessary & unsafe confrontation.”

BTWs this was the post. So threatening! #Trump is a weakling.

#SecretService spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, in a statement, said, “The Secret Service vigorously investigates anything that can be taken as a potential threat against our protectees.”

“We are aware of the social media posts by the former FBI Director [#JamesComey] & we take rhetoric like this very seriously,” Guglielmi said.

“He knew exactly what that meant,” #Trump said in an interview w/ FauxNews, a day after the #DHS & the #SecretService opened an investigation into Comey’s Instagram post.

“A child knows what that meant. If you’re the FBI director & you don’t know ... that meant ‘assassination,’” Trump said.

This morning, Judge Cobb ordered the govt to respond to the plaintiffs filing by 5/21.

In the suit, #FBI agents are asking to destroy & enjoin publication of a list of agents who worked on #Jan6 investigations compiled by fmr Acting Deputy AG & fmr losing #Trump #criminal defense attorney #EmilBove in January.

#EdMartin said he knew that outing #FBI agents violated #policy, but didn't care:

“The system is stifling the truth from coming out because of some procedure.”
