I spent Memorial Day weekend camping at the beach with a couple of friends, on Washington state’s Olympic Peninsula. We were fortunate to have had fantastic weather the first two days (never a guarantee here this time of year), and I had a great time shooting while we explored the area.

We went up to Kalaloch Beach to see the Tree of Life, and also hit Ruby Beach at sunset. The air at Ruby Beach was filled with mist from the crashing waves, lit golden by the sun. One of the sea stacks had a hole in it, through with the sunlight was positively streaming, and the shot I got of it is now up in my store as Poseidon’s Door.
I also turned my lens on smaller things I found lying in the sand, and got a long exposure night shot to round things out.
I hope your Memorial Day weekend was equally pleasant!

The towering Old Man of Hoy, with people on the cliff adding scale. The Old Man is barely part of Hoy, the second largest of Orkney’s islands at about 10 by 5 miles. Hoy’s name fittingly comes from the Old Norse for 'High Island'. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/hoy/hoy/index.html

The most amazing place in Scotland? Sandwood Bay, south of Cape Wrath in Sutherland, offers nearly a mile and half of wide pinkish sand backed by huge sand dunes and a loch, plus an impressive sea stack: and a very long walk in.
