Hmm, if someone has 3m/px PlanetScope access, could be helpful for that missing woman near Mt. Waterman, California. (I don't have real time access, only archive access) #remoteimaging #gis #SearchAndRescue #SAR #AngelesNF

From Montrose SAR (earlier this morning)
Montrose Search & Rescue Team (Ca.)
"Day 6 – The search for Monica Reza continues in the Mount Waterman area. SAR teams from San Diego to Tulare County have joined the mission to help bring her home. We’re grateful for their tireless efforts. #FindMonicaReza #MontroseSAR #MutualAid
"Please avoid the search area. Uncoordinated hikers can interfere with tracking, delay progress, or create new emergencies. We also have enough food & supplies at this time. Thank you for supporting trained teams. #StayClearForSafety #SAR #AngelesNationalForest"
No current imagery of the area that person is in. $759 for new imagery, but the time will be 2-3 days (or longer) to acquire, which is not great when you've been missing for 3 days. That said, there is water at the bottom of the canyon, you won't starve to death as long as you stay hydrated and don't hurt yourself. You might locate someone if they are smart enough to be out in the open with reflective/bright colors. (ps. tip: BRING AN EMERGENCY BLANKET WITH YOU HIKING ALL THE TIME... Can't miss it from a helicopter) #SearchAndRescue #SAR #hiking #Waterman #AngelesNF
Here's one of the typical places people go wrong... Instead of turning left on the trails back towards the road, they end up going past the trail and down into the canyon on the right. The guy I located from his selfie, and I have at least two others (maybe 3?) marked... one was an Eagle Scout and went all the way left and survived, the other was a fatality. There are probably others. The hard part for crews (and hikers) is it is a big area, not easy to be seen in the trees, can't hear people. #Waterman #SearchAndRescue #SAR #hiking
Likely this lost hiker is in the bottom of one of these canyons. Though potentially stuck on a cliff, it's easy to start heading downhill here and get mired in rough country with no way up an no way down. #waterman #SearchAndRescue #SAR #hiking
Oooh, someone else lost where I found that hiker last time....
There's a spot where everyone takes a right instead of a left, and then ends up lost down several canyons.

ABC: Washington state man rescued after falling from tree, spending days in woods
The man allegedly spent four to five days in the wilderness, officials said.
Oooh, they found that guy who went missing in Sage, California!
(x-post FB, original post at https://www.facebook.com/wesarkitsap/posts/pfbid02S2z7MXFpJaAvePFYEEC9EuhX8dzgGkVMYmKooRsW5XnV7DQwhN3wfm16K7i1f1ZVl)
Our Suquamish subject was safely located and extracted! Searchers were called about 2am this morning to reports of an unknown man calling for help in a heavily wooded area. When searchers arrived, the man had stopped answering voice calls, so teams deployed in a grid search of very dense, very prickly woods. After several hours, our subject was located by a dog team (good Kimber!!) with Kitsap County Search Dogs. According to the man, he had been in the woods for 4-5 days and became immobile due to medical issues. He was extracted via litter thru very wet and thick forest by Kitsap WESAR teams. All searchers are home, drying out, and getting some sleep!

Anyone who has struggled with a GPS assistant lagging, giving iffy instructions, relying on outdated data, knows how these can get you in trouble. But in a city, you at least won't die of exposure or fall down a ravine and break your neck, because the algorithm told you that would make your hike 'more scenic' or 'shorter'.
YMMV, of course.
#PSA: if you use the AllTrails app, the GenAI it uses for the "making route" feature may send you down a crevasse or some other dangerous route, where rescuers may not find you, ever.
