Throwback to one of my favourite older sketchbook spreads where I experimented with using gouache like watercolour~

I am currently reading the Letters of Vincent van Gogh. In the introduction of the book there is a timeline of his life, and there I learnt that he spent some time in boarding school at ... the village where I was born!

So, I looked up the exact location in Google streetview (I don't live there anymore), and to my astonishment Vincent's boarding school was right next to our family doctor (a man I was rather afraid of when I was young).

By the way, the name of "my" doctor was "Van de Kerkhof" (kerkhof means graveyard in Dutch, I’m not kidding).

Of course, I just had to add this to my sketchbook (using streetview as a reference). The spooky alley on the right leads to my scary doctor, while the red building on the left is where Vincent stayed.

So, Vincent van Gogh and I literally crossed paths!
