WFTU Call for Intensifying Mobilization Against Imperialist and Zionist Aggression
https://www.wftucentral.org/wftu-call-for-intensifying-mobilization-against-imperialist-and-zionist-aggression/
After Israel’s military attack against Iran with the direct participation of the USA and the support of NATO, the EU and other allies, the effort to impose imperialist plans for the wider Middle East region is rapidly escalating and seriously threatening world peace and security. Every principle of International Law is brutally violated by the murderous and terrorist State of Israel and its powerful allies, using the power of arms, spearheaded by the Israeli military machine, as a means to impose plans that serve imperialist geo-strategic and economic interests against the peoples of the region, thus bringing humanity once again before the threat of a wider war with incalculable consequences for the peoples of the world. The only force that can stop this painful course and put an end on imperialist and Zionist aggression is the reaction and resistance of the peoples with the working class in the front line. For the progressive, anti-imperialist forces in the world today it is an urgent duty to defend the life and benefits of the people, the peace threatened by imperialist aggression. The WFTU has from the very first moment clearly and unequivocally condemned the aggression of the murderous Israeli state. We are proud that under the banners of our Federation millions of workers around the world have mobilized and are mobilizing in solidarity with the people of Palestine for a free Palestine and an independent Palestinian state. In these crucial moments when the flame of war caused by imperialist and Zionist aggression is widening and spreading, the WFTU calls on its members and friends to intensify their mobilisation in solidarity with the Palestinian people, the people of Iran, Lebanon and the other peoples of the region who are suffering the consequences of imperialist aggression. All of us with one voice demand: Stop immediately the genocide of the Palestinian people and the attack on Iran, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen. No to the warmongers who ignite the flames of war and threaten the peoples for their geostrategic and economic interests Yes to peace and nuclear disarmament for all Freedom for Palestine

The WFTU condemns Israel’s attack on Iran
https://www.wftucentral.org/the-wftu-condemns-israels-attack-on-iran/
The World Federation of Trade Unions strongly condemns Israel’s attack on Iran. This attack is yet another blatant violation of the principles of international law, and it increases the dangers to peace and security in the region and across the globe. It marks yet another step in the escalation of aggression by the murderous state. It is clear that this arrogance and aggression are fueled by the support of the United States and its allies. The WFTU calls on its affiliates and friends to intensify mobilizations and solidarity actions with the struggling Palestinian people and the peoples of the region, who are victims of Israeli aggression

Statement of the World Federation of Trade Unions on the World Day Against Child Labor
https://www.wftucentral.org/statement-of-the-world-federation-of-trade-unions-on-the-world-day-against-child-labor/
The World Federation of Trade Unions, representing more than 105 million workers in 134 countries, marks this year’s World Day Against Child Labor with determination. The class-oriented international trade union movement denounces once more the continuing tragedy of child labor—a barbaric manifestation of capitalist exploitation that robs millions of children of their future. On this day, it is important not to forget the children around the world who are being robbed of their childhoods as a result of imperialist interventions and wars. Since the beginning of the Israeli aggression in Gaza, more than 16,000 children have lost their lives, while hundreds of thousands will carry the fear, trauma, and physical and emotional wounds of war for the rest of their lives. Today, over 160 million children are still trapped in labor, many subjected to hazardous, degrading, and exhausting conditions. These children are denied their right to education, to leisure, to a healthy life, and to a dignified childhood. This is not an unfortunate accident or the result of isolated failures—it is the direct outcome of the exploitative nature of capitalism, which thrives on inequality, poverty, and imperialist domination. Child labor worldwide has risen to alarming levels in recent years. Between 2016 and 2024—for the first time in over two decades—the number of working children globally has increased. The unprecedented economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with the deepening capitalist crisis and wars, continues to push children into ever more exploitative and dangerous labor conditions. Meanwhile, the same forces that liberalize markets, dismantle public services, and suppress workers’ rights are the ones that drive families into despair and force children into labor. Multinational corporations, complicit governments, and international institutions may present themselves as champions of children’s rights, but in reality, they advance policies that entrench exploitation and strip working people of their dignity and protections. For the WFTU, it is clear: the eradication of child labor can never be achieved under a system that sees human beings as tools for profit. What is needed is a radical transformation—one that guarantees free, quality public education for all children, ensures decent wages and secure employment for all adults, and strengthens public services and social protection systems. No parent should ever be forced to choose between hunger and sending their child to work. We reaffirm our militant commitment to this struggle, and we stand in solidarity with workers across the globe who resist exploitation and fight for their rights. The battle against child labor is inseparable from the broader struggle against capitalist injustice and imperialist aggression. It is part of our vision for a society where the needs of the people—not the profits of the few—come first.

World Federation of Trade Unions statement on the new barbaric military attack and deliberate starvation of the people of Gaza
https://www.wftucentral.org/world-federation-of-trade-unions-statement-on-the-new-barbaric-military-attack-and-deliberate-starvation-of-the-people-of-gaza/
The World Federation of Trade Unions expresses its deepest outrage and unequivocal condemnation of the new barbaric military attack and deliberate, systematic, and inhumane policy of starvation being imposed upon the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli occupation forces. We denounce the use of famine as a weapon of war — a blatant violation of international law and basic human morality. The calculated destruction of vital infrastructure, the blockade of humanitarian aid, the bombing of food distribution centers, and the targeting of agricultural lands and water supplies constitute a man-made famine. These actions amount to collective punishment, a war crime under the Fourth Geneva Convention. The escalation of the genocide with the blessing and support of the USA, EU and their allies, reveals once again the hypocrisy and cynicism of the imperialist powers. The WFTU stands in unwavering solidarity with the heroic people of Palestine who, despite enduring an unprecedented siege, continue to resist with dignity and courage. We salute the Palestinian working class, whose suffering is immense and whose resilience is inspiring in the face of genocide, forced displacement, and systematic starvation. The class oriented international trade union, demands an immediate end to the siege on Gaza; full and unrestricted humanitarian access to food, water, medicine, and fuel; accountability for those responsible for crimes against humanity. Hands off Gaza! End the occupation! Solidarity with Palestine!

WFTU Statement on the 77th Anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba Day
https://www.wftucentral.org/wftu-statement-on-the-77th-anniversary-of-the-palestinian-nakba-day/
The World Federation of Trade Unions, commemorates the 77th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba “The Day of Catastrophe” a defining moment in modern history that marked the forced displacement of over 750,000 Palestinians and the killing of more than 15,000. This tragedy was not a one-time event, but the beginning of a long and ongoing history of occupation, ethnic cleansing, apartheid, land theft and systematic crimes against the Palestinian people. Today, in 2025, the Palestinian people are facing a new and even more brutal chapter of this ongoing catastrophe. Since October 2023, the people of Gaza have endured one of the most destructive and deadly military campaigns in recent history. Tens of thousands have been killed, the majority of them women and children. Entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble. Hospitals, schools, and refugee shelters have been repeatedly attacked. The infrastructure of Gaza has been deliberately decimated, plunging the population into a humanitarian nightmare with no food, no clean water, no electricity, and no safety. As we mark this year’s Nakba anniversary, Israel, with the full support and complicity of the United States, the European Union, and their allies, is intensifying its war on the Palestinian people in Gaza and the Westbank. The international community watches, and yet Israel continues to act with total impunity, violating international law, United Nations resolutions, and even the recent rulings of the International Court of Justice. The WFTU reiterates its full and uncompromising solidarity with the Palestinian people and their just struggle. We remain firm in our demand for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, an end to the Israeli occupation of all Palestinian and Arab territories, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. We reaffirm the right of return for all Palestinian refugees and insist on the urgent need to hold Israel accountable for its war crimes and crimes against humanity. In these difficult times, we are inspired by the courage and determination of workers, students across the globe who have risen in solidarity with Palestine. The WFTU feels proud as its affiliates are leading mass mobilizations across the world, rejecting the genocide in Gaza and demanding an end to their governments’ complicity in this crime. The WFTU calls on its affiliates and friends across the globe to escalate their solidarity with the Palestinian struggle. Our solidarity must be loud, it must be visible, and it must be grounded in action. On this 77th Nakba Day, we do not forget, and we do not remain silent. We rise alongside our Palestinian brothers and sisters in the streets, in our unions, and in every forum of international struggle. Despite threats and repression, the voices of peace continue to grow louder, while the WFTU will continue to proudly wave the Palestinian flag alongside its own, standing on the right side of history, and fighting until the end of occupation, apartheid, and genocide. End the occupation now! Stop the genocide! Free Palestine!

WFTU Statement on May 9, 2025 – 80 Years Since the Victory Over Fascism
https://www.wftucentral.org/wftu-statement-on-may-9-2025-80-years-since-the-victory-over-fascism/
On May 9, 1945, with the final defeat of Nazi Germany and the collapse of the fascist axis, the peoples of the world achieved a historic victory. The red flag bearing the hammer and sickle had already been raised over the Reichstag in Berlin, symbolizing the triumph of the anti-fascist resistance. The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) salutes and honors the 80th anniversary of this historic victory. We pay deep tribute to the millions of victims of Nazi and fascist atrocities, and especially to the countless anti-fascist fighters who gave their lives on the battlefields, in the resistance movements, in the partisan struggles, and in the concentration camps. Their sacrifice made possible the victory over barbarism. This victory, with the Soviet Union and the Red Army playing a leading role, gave rise to a new hope: a world free of war, racial discrimination, colonialism, exploitation, and injustice. It changed the global balance in favor of workers and the oppressed, inspired national liberation struggles, and started the collapse of colonial empires. The foundation of the WFTU in 1945 was itself born out of the great anti-fascist victory. It was created to unite the trade union movement in the struggle for peace and freedom. Today, 80 years later, we witness again the rise of fascism and the far-right, with the support of the capital and its representatives, with imperialist wars and interventions continuing to bring suffering to the peoples. From the ongoing genocide in Palestine to the imperialist aggression elsewhere, to the growing refugee crises and rising militarism promoted by the USA, NATO, and the EU, the dangers facing peace and humanity are grave. At the same time, these forces are intensifying efforts to falsify and erase history. They attempt to eliminate the decisive role played by the Soviet Union, the working class, and the anti-fascist movements in the defeat of Nazism. They even rebrand May 9 as “Europe Day” to rewrite the meaning of this date and strip it of its revolutionary legacy. The international class-oriented trade union movement does not and will not forget. Our duty is to preserve historical truth, to educate the new generations of trade unionists, and to strengthen the anti-fascist, anti-imperialist struggle of the working class worldwide. We reaffirm our commitment to the defense of world peace, to the rights and dignity of the peoples, as the only lasting path to a world without fascism, wars, and exploitation. Long live the victory of May 9, 1945! Long live the anti-fascist struggle!

WFTU 2025 Mayday declaration
https://www.wftucentral.org/wftu-2025-mayday-declaration/
The International Class-oriented Trade Union Movement, the workers, and the militant unions all over the globe honor with struggles the 139th anniversary of the workers’ struggle in Chicago in 1886. The World Federation of Trade Unions, the most historic international trade union organisation, representing more than 105 million workers all the length and breadth of the world, sends a cordial and militant message to all the workers and farmers, to the ordinary people of toil and labour, on the occasion of International Workers Day, which constitutes a lasting and bright milestone of struggle. This year’s May Day coincides with the 80th Anniversary of the WFTU, which was born in the ashes of the most destructive war in the history of humanity in the revolutionary fresh air of the great anti-fascist victory of the peoples with the Soviet Union at the forefront, and completes 8 decades of continuous and uninterrupted struggle for the rights of workers, for justice and social progress, against all forms of discrimination, against wars and imperialist interventions, against may by man exploitation. Both the messages and demands of the Chicago pioneers of 1886 and the needs that inevitably led to the establishment of the WFTU remain relevant and necessary today. The crisis of capitalism deepens and is generalized. Social inequalities are widening dramatically. Democratic freedoms and trade union rights are under attack all over the world, and the imperialist wars and interventions are on the daily agenda. The genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza and in the West Bank, the bombing in Lebanon and other countries of the wider Middle East region, with the support and encouragement of the USA, the EU, and their allies, continues, revealing in all its grandeur the hypocrisy, cynicism, and inhumane nature of imperialism. At the same time, global defence spending rose to 2.46 trillion USD last year, with big budget increases in countries of Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. Notably, there are examples of countries that are almost doubling their defence spending. At the same time, the USA President Trump calls for a minimum spending of 5% of GDP among NATO members, and the EU Commission Summit decided to finance 800 billion euros for military armament within the ReArm EUROPE project. The shift towards a war economy is clearly a priority for the ruling circles of capitalism, as it incites profitability for multinational monopolies and the expansion of the geopolitical power of developed imperialist states. These new massive increases in military spending, apart from being a threat to global peace and security, also mean even harsher austerity policies and widening social inequality. The resources that would be destined for families, workers, and ordinary people are cut and diverted to rearmament, and civil and social rights and liberties are placed under guardianship, because in the preparation for war, different opinion are not allowed. The WFTU and the class-oriented trade unions strongly condemn the war preparations of the bourgeoisie. The popular strata have nothing to expect from a new widespread and generalized war but death, poverty, destruction, refuges, and hardship. We demand spending for the contemporary needs of the workers and the peoples. We demand adequate education and healthcare and not weapons. We demand dignified working and living conditions and not ammunition and missiles. We demand spending on culture, sport, and recreation, and not fighter aircraft and naval vessels. We demand measures against rising inflation and living costs that erode living standards. We oppose privatization, outsourcing, and flexible forms of work that intensify the precarious employment and exploitation, alongside extended retirement ages. The Workers and social achievements are under relentless attacks and challenges undermining labor rights, collective agreements, and democratic freedoms. Workplace safety remains neglected, causing daily injuries and fatalities. Despite global challenges, workers do not passively accept the anti-labor offensive on their rights and freedoms. Millions mobilize worldwide for dignified work and the protection of trade union and social rights with the WFTU members to be firmly at the forefront of these struggles. The response of bourgeois governments to the just popular demands is the sharpening of state repression and authoritarianism. At the same time, employers and governments are attempting to manipulate labor struggles, betting on the role of yellow unions and compromised trade union leaders. In our era it is obvious that the prerequisites for truly dignified working and social living conditions for all workers exist in abundance. The class-oriented trade union movement fights so that the huge productive capabilities are not utilized to increase the profits of capitalists and create unimaginable wealth for a few, but to ensure dignified living and working conditions for those who create and produce the wealth. Organization and struggle is the only path that can overturn the existing realities of misery, exploitation, and social injustice. The weapon of workers everywhere is solidarity and internationalism. The WFTU remains firmly committed to these principles. It continues its 80-year path with the same vision that inspired its founding: for a world without wars and imperialist interventions, without exploitation and discrimination. A world where work will be permanent, stable, regulated, and safe. On the occasion of May Day 2025, the WFTU calls upon the class and militant trade unions around the world to take initiatives and organize this year’s campaign and activities under the slogan: Their profits or Our lives – Hope lies in peoples’ struggle ΝΟ to war economies YES to the class struggles: -against the imperialist wars and interventions, -against capitalist exploitation, -for the satisfaction of the workers’ contemporary needs. Let the WFTU flag proudly wave along with the flags of the militant trade unions in the uninterrupted class struggle for stable work with rights, social security, free public, and universal health and education, a dignified life. This will be the highest and proper celebration of the glorious 80-year course of struggles, sacrifices, and dignity of the international class-oriented trade union movement. LONG LIVE MAY DAY! LONG LIVE INTERNATIONALIST SOLIDARITY! LONG LIVE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE WFTU!

WFTU General Secretary opening speech at the 20th FISE Congress
https://www.wftucentral.org/wftu-general-secretary-opening-speech-at-the-20th-fise-congress/
Speech by Pambis Kyritsis General Secretary of WFTU 20th FISE Congress Rabat, 4,5 April 2025 Comrades, Before I begin my speech, I would like to warmly thank the FNE for hosting the 20th Congress of FISE. The conditions created by our Moroccan comrades guarantee that this Congress will be successful and worthy of all our expectations. FISE is a valuable pillar for the WFTU. It expresses the struggles and demands of a group of workers whose object is education, learning, culture, and ultimately the consciousness formation of the new generations of every society. It is one of the longest-operating TUI of the WFTU, founded just one year after the establishment of the WFTU, and its history is rich in struggles and creative contributions to the achievements related to education as well as the intellectual and cultural development. It is true that in recent years, FISE has not been as mobilized and active as we would have wished. Organizational, financial, and other problems have limited its activity and presence. That is why I am confident that our conference here in Rabat will be a new dynamic start. The discussion that will take place here, the exchange of experiences, the decisions that will be taken, will constitute a guideline for action that will lead us to the new struggles that await us, and the fresh and renewed leading bodies that we will elect will, I am sure, undertake the burden and the noble responsibility of organizational reorganization and a more active and productive operation of this historic International. Dear colleagues, brothers and sisters, Our era is characterized by the generalization and deepening of the capitalist crisis, which is accompanied by new attacks on workers’ rights and achievements, a dramatic widening of social inequalities, further environmental degradation, and reckless overexploitation of our planet’s natural resources. The genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza and in the West Bank, with the support and encouragement of the USA, the EU, and their allies, has once again revealed in all its grandeur the hypocrisy, cynicism, and inhumane nature of imperialism. Global geopolitical and economic rivalries continue to directly threaten world peace and security, even with the risk of nuclear destruction. Imperialist wars, interventions, sanctions, and blockades continue and intensify. The USA, the EU, and their NATO allies are announcing new massive increases in military spending, which, apart from being a threat to global peace and security, also mean even harsher austerity policies and widening social inequality. Nowadays, the shift towards a war economy is clearly a priority for the ruling circles of capitalism, as it ensures profitability for multinational monopolies and the expansion of the geopolitical power of developed imperialist states. Harsh and intense attacks continue against the labor and social achievements and the democratic and trade union freedoms. The high cost of living and inflation are brutally undermining workers’ and pensioners’ living standards. Unemployment, precariousness, and the overexploitation of cheap labor of vulnerable workers due to mass economic migration or refugee flows, as well as anti-popular and anti-labor legislative measures systematically promoted by neoliberal governments, have significantly undermined labor with rights and regulated collective agreements that reflect the modern needs of workers. Individual contracts, privatizations, outsourcing, teleworking, and “service leasing” are just some of the forms taken by this harsh neoliberal attack. The authoritarian and arbitrary increase in retirement ages continues methodically. Major social achievements such as public education, social security and public health are being privatized. Thousands of workers are killed or injured daily due to the lack of measures to protect against workplace accidents and occupational diseases. Safety and health at work are seen by employers as undesirable costs that reduce their profits. This attack is, of course, also faced by the workers in the education sector that all of you delegates at this conference represent. It is obvious that for the dominant circles of global capitalism, education is not a public good to which everyone is entitled rightfully and equally, but is still a commodity that must be profitable. Hence, education is continuously privatised, state expenditures are constantly shrinking, and responsibility for public education is shifting onto the parents themselves and, consequently, onto the popular strata. The attack against universal, free, and quality education has not only economic incentives. The education sector shapes the consciences of the new generation and the bourgeoise aims in the creation of a new shift of the working class which will not be overall educated but fragmentary and superficially trained as tool in the market need, a new shift of the working class that will be taught a falsified and distorted history and will be socially indifferent and ideologically conservative. Consequently, FISE and the progressive teachers also have a crucial task to defend the scientific, quality, progressive, and human-centered education. The attack on the rights and achievements of teachers continues, as their work is increasingly becoming precarious and temporary, without security and without employment contracts, with humiliating wages and with all the consequences for the quality of the education they provide. The encouraging and hopeful element in the depressing picture of today’s world, is the fact that workers do not passively accept the neoliberal capitalist, anti-popular, and anti-labor offensive. Millions of workers around the world are choosing the path of struggle to defend their trade union, social, and political rights. With militant mobilizations in every corner of the globe, they are demanding work with rights that ensures the satisfaction of their contemporary needs. The WFTU members or friends are always on the frontlines of these struggles. The response of bourgeois governments to the just popular demands is the sharpening of state repression and authoritarianism, and such attacks and persecutions are particularly intensified against the struggling teachers. At the same time, employers and governments are attempting to manipulate labor struggles, betting on the role of yellow unions and compromised trade union leaders. It is no coincidence that the ITUC have intensified its attacks, aiming to limit the presence and influence of the WFTU within the global trade union […]
