George Miller on AI and film: “It’s the balance between human creativity and machine capability, that’s what the debate and the anxiety is about,” he says. “It strikes me how this debate echoes earlier moments in art history.”

He likens our current moment to the Renaissance, when the introduction of oil paint “gave artists the freedom to revise and enhance their work over time”.

“That shift sparked controversy – some argued that true artists should be able to commit to the canvas without corrections, others embraced the new flexibility,” Miller says. “A similar debate unfolded in the mid-19th century with the arrival of photography. Art has to evolve. And while photography became its own form, painting continued. Both changed, but both endured. Art changed.” theguardian.com/film/2025/oct/ #Ai #film #technology

Without #datacenters, #GDP growth was 0.1% in the first half of 2025, Harvard #economist says
The GDP growth would have been just 0.1% on an annualized basis without these #technology-related categories, according to Harvard economist Jason Furman. Investment in information-processing equipment and software accounted for only 4% of #US GDP during this period but represented 92% of GDP growth.

Y'know I long for the 90s when #dystopian #nightmares were found in books and video games. The Center for Democracy and Technology has released a 65-page report titled "Hand in Hand: Schools’ Embrace of AI Connected to Increased Risks to Students."

The information is so alarming that, as of right now, it's on NPR's front page. Specifically, 1 in 5 high school students have had a romantic AI relationship.

Oh my gods.

I grew up watching Knight Rider and thought KITT was the shit, but I never thought people would have relationships with computers. The sheer *volumes* on which the psychosocial impacts of technology misuse shouts can best be described as shockwaves. Maybe, being fully immersed in a hyperspeed tech-driven world 24x7 isn't such a good idea?

Whoa

New survey data finds that nearly 1 in 5 high schoolers have had a romantic #ArtificialIntelligence relationship, or they know someone who has. And 42% of students surveyed say they or someone they know have used #AI for #companionship.

That's according to new research from the Center for Democracy & Technology (#CDT), a nonprofit that advocates for #CivilRights, #CivilLiberties & responsible use of #data & #technology.

What an irresponsible technology to just yeet into the world. GenAI in general, but definitely Sora 2.

A shared truth (already not common in the divided news landscape) just got more scarce... Anyone can generate 'evidence' of whatever they say, and most people old enough to know what a floppy disk is will think it's video from actual events.

It's not hypothetical. It's happening.
