#ThreeGoodThings

Today:

- I weeded young tōtara and other trees at the native plant nursery volunteer session

- it was lovely to see an old friend of Mum’s who came to visit her, I joined them for afternoon tea

- I was especially grateful for the drugs which eased a painful shoulder (probably just an old injury playing up)

TBH it’s been a bit rough the past month, and today I am feeling anxious, grumpy and low. There are work-related things impacting on my life that I am not in control of and that higher powers are not communicating well about with people who are being impacted. So it is a mighty act of resistance and hope (even more than normal) to look for and post about #ThreeGoodThings today…
- it was a sunny day and I got the washing almost dry
- we enjoyed a pre- and post- work walk along the nature reserve by the stream
- I am blessed to have a hubby who I can share my challenges with, and who knows when all I really need is a big hug

Crunchy spring rolls with sweet and sour sauce. Are two enough? Are four too many? 🤔

Rebuilding my bookmark folder with links to old Art Bell radio shows after accidentally deleting the first folder. Classic weird stuff to listen to while cooking, scrolling.

Started a new Nero Wolf novel, The Red Box. Thirties detecting with sass, verve, and a fine command of English vocabulary.

Today:

- a locksmith came to look at a broken door lock and was able, with a lot of jiggery pokery, to fix rather than replace it

- I started sorting through the big filing cabinet, which I should be able to downsize or replace with a filebox or 2

- the weekly grocery order arrived and the cat food emergency is over

Monday, May 19🌸 Catching up

1. Surprise visit from my local granddaughter, who brought exotic pastries & a cabbage from her farmers’ market — the cabbage was for haluski (new to me but beloved by my Polish genes).
2. Many happy pool pics from NC son, who has all three daughters home for the summer.
3. Found two excellent newly-released series on Acorn: “True Love” & “City Homicide”

Today I visited a secret lady's slippers orchid spot together with my frail and feeble parents - knowing its very likely their last time going there, where they went every year since they know each others, mum even since her childhood.

The #threegoodthings #3goodthings:

1 Mum made it without panic attack which she often ends with up lately

2 Dad made it without falling over or crashing

3 We all three were very happy

Right, then. Close to quittin' time, so here's my #threegoodthings for today.

1) Late-night last-night musing guessed at a possible solution to a dayjob coding problem. I nailed it in about an hour this afternoon. All hail the "let it simmer" strategy.

2) I drafted a tricky letter about a situation, showed it to friends/mentors, and two of them praised it.

3) I have, w/o any actual personal merit whatsoever, the two best dogs. My legendary luck continues to hold.

And you? Share!

Three good things today:
1. I lead a group of Ukrainian children into the forest. I comment on the surrounding nature, landscape. They enjoy walking along narrow and indistinct animal paths. They expect a wild pig behind every tree, but they also like bugs, dragonflies and caterpillars.
2. A delicious goulash of porcini mushrooms, potatoes and other vegetables, cooked by my wife. It was cold outside.
3. My son passed the college entrance exam.

1) ADHD diagnosis confirmed. It would’ve been really helpful to know this 50 years ago. But I’ll take it & hope to learn something from it now.
2) Started neurofeedback treatment. Figured I’d give it a try before attempting meds.
3) Back to #bicycle commuting after a five month break while convalescing. So nice to just zoom across town again! Building up leg strength for the hills!
