Rather than thinking of disabled students as the enemy creating more work, ask yourself how you can make your course more accessible from the start. How can you build in more support? What changes reduce the need for accommodations to begin with?

It's uncanny how I find these cartoons earlier in the day they are presented in my MeD.
I do love the way it demonstrates the value of tier-one universal strategies.
We need more of this truly inclusive social modelling in our everyday lives.
My latest Edutopia article discusses the importance of teaching students about the #accessibilty features of their device. It also highlights specific #ipad , #Google , & #Microsoft accessibility features that can be helpful for learners.

@economistatwork seems to me the two perspectives aren't mutually exclusive. It's more like #UDL : we all benefit from including everyone but that doesn't mean the benefits that accrue for targeted groups aren't important to seek even if it only benefited them.
@mathewoakes @udl thanks for making this point #UDL and UDL approaches are key to #Ungrading as is a fundamentally humanizing pedagogy.
I both try to embody and we have our students read and practice UDL based on this book.
I’m glad to see the growing #UnGrading community here in the fedi. I’d love to see the same emerge for #UDL #UniversalDesignForLearning. To that end, I thought I’d create a Guppe Group for UDL: @udl

Ultimately, I think that UnGrading is a UDL strategy and addresses the hegemonic barriers the UDL framework misses (tho CAST is working on this with the #EquityRising project).
It was a long semester of teaching, but perhaps one of the most joyful I've ever had the privilege to teach. Since the pandemic, I've been working on integrating #UDL & #UnGrading into my practices. This semester seemed to be the one where it all starting to gel in really remarkable ways. What emerged was community -- true learning in a socially dynamic and supportive environment.

@econproph I have several colleagues and friends still on the bird app who have thousands of followers and are equity and service committed. I have met many of them beyond the bird app and though they may seem like a minority in the face of #edutainers there are many doing important work and genuinely engaging in community.
There are/have been thriving #NGSS #Ungrading #equity #UDL that I have been part of and many connect at national and regional conferences. I think dismissing these folx is problematic and lumps those doing genuine work with edutainers is short sighted and dismissive of those who are deeply committed to their communities.
One thing that I have clearly seen in the great migration is that the early migrants are those most privileged.
