You know your users. Don't you?
UX research doesn't have to be super time-consuming. Of course, you should know what questions you are looking for answers to and some preparation is useful, but short chats with users on very specific topics can provide more insight and clarity within just a few minutes.
Tried it out for you again this morning.

Getting ready for the first out of three interview of the day.

One of the first points on my list for this new year: document my atomic research approach so that team members and stakeholders know what we're talking and discussing about.
Second user interview of the week. Gaining some insights for an new feature we would like to implement soon and I still need some feedback to know how to integrate it best. Time is running out.

Remember, if you make things too frictionless, users may slip and injure themselves without even knowing what's going on.
Friction, leveraged properly, can be useful to trigger the right type of reflection required for UX in AI-powered apps.

Talking to users is critical. But an expert user isn't necessarily better than someone new to the system. They have embraced the mental model and built up hacks to fill the gaps. Your product's jank is part of their identity.
This is why domain experts are not "user proxies".
Talk to representative users, not the "best" ones.
