mort<p>Okay this is wild: I just noticed that changing 'PasswordAuthentication' to 'no' in /etc/ssh/sshd_config is no longer enough to disable password authentication in <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ubuntu</span></a>. That's because Ubuntu Server now by default creates a sshd_config.d/50-cloud-init.conf file which contains 'PasswordAuthentication yes' which takes priority over sshd_config.</p><p>I would've unknowingly left password auth on if I hadn't double checked.</p><p>Why?</p><p>More: <a href="https://askubuntu.com/questions/1516262/why-is-50-cloud-init-conf-created" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">askubuntu.com/questions/151626</span><span class="invisible">2/why-is-50-cloud-init-conf-created</span></a></p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/security" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>security</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/server" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>server</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ubuntuserver" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ubuntuserver</span></a></p>

Tobleh 🇨🇦 🫐✨<p>after running into a few weird things when it comes to updating the version of Nextcloud on my NAS (as well as having memory issues keeping me from properly setting up cron), i've genuinely considered just buying a computer and turning it into a dedicated Nextcloud server using something like Debian or Ubuntu Server or what not...</p><p>.....the biggest hurdle for me (so far) is probably figuring out how to set up Nextcloud with its own domain name an HTTPS, as it'll be the first time I've touched anything like that. The guides re: setting up your own Nextcloud instance (with Ubuntu server) that I've seen so far mainly either assume that you're gonna use Linode, or set everything up manually instead of using something like the Nextcloud snap. :TamakoThink: :neocat_confused: </p><p><a href="https://sakurajima.moe/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a> <a href="https://sakurajima.moe/tags/UbuntuServer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UbuntuServer</span></a> <a href="https://sakurajima.moe/tags/HomeServer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeServer</span></a> <a href="https://sakurajima.moe/tags/HomeLab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeLab</span></a></p>
