A Vermont library for @jessamyn complete with a bell on top. In the town of Waterford, VT.

A two (three with attic?) story building on the edge of a slope such that the second story has a sidewalk leading to it in the front and there’s an entrance to the first floor further down and around the slope. Building is white with dark green doors, shutters, and deck railing. A bell is mounted on the peak of the roof. There’s a road sign out front, near the camera that says “Maple St”. The sign on side of building says “Davies Memorial Library”

Looking out at a lake above dam on the Connecticut River and there’s some floats to keep boats away from the face, a couple loons (I think) are on top of barrels. One on left is looking over at one on right who is standing with wings spread way out. The look looks mostly still, the sky shows some blue but also some high and low cloud cover. Hills in distance in different shades of shadow.

A Peregrine falcon resting on top of a large boulder off the side of the road. It had been down in a ditch, perhaps eating before I biked by, another falcon nearby keeping watch.

A common sight along the interstate by Fairlee VT, but up close with a fly sort of contraption made out of an old, old pickup truck and other metal scraps perched atop very tall metal legs

Not an oddity, at least around here, but one of the many metal bridges spanning the Connecticut river.

An eclectic mix of kitsch gathered around the “Sargent Artesian Wells” workshop. Dinosaur on top, Yellow beetle (car) with peace sign on top of shipping container, something that looks like a tesla coil ball inside a partial faraday cage, and pink flamingos.

Someone took some very burled tree trunks, painted/stained them, and made a male box holder like no other. Easy to give directions to your house, “look for mailbox with two very gnarlty burled poles”

A sheep (?) on a road warning sign, no words so maybe just boasting. One the left a bit further up road is a big barn and farmhouse. In the clear blue sky above is the contrail of a jet doing a u-turn, as if the sheep sign deflected it.

Mosquito on bug netting of tent, you can just hear it breathing in deeply, “yes, we can smells it, it is inside, precious!”

A blue sky with a variety of clouds, most notable is a big swooping thing like someone ran a finger through the sky. What I see is a big headed skeletal bird warrior riding a surf board while holding a giant lance.
Also, the fluffy grey cloud below it is flipping someone off…

Stats:
Day 1: 46 miles, 2,128ft elevation gain
Day 2: 50 miles, 3,400ft (plus 3 miles to groceries)
Day 3: 48 miles, 1,580ft

Even with all of the obsessive route planning ahead of time I didn't consider road construction or closures, and the first day had both with a big dirt road climb and some sketchy Class VI back country walking/biking to get past a road closure to the camping area.

From Class VI to whatever this is, thick weeds on a steep downhill powerline

I went on my first bike packing trip this week. Three days of following the Connecticut river from Hanover NH/Norwich VT to nearly the top of the Vermont/New Hampshire border. Two great days of weather and one rainy one. Beautiful country.

This was discovered while reading about Hall's Stream or Rivière Hall, which is a 25.2 mile river that forms much of the New Hampshire and Canadian border, with all of the undulations and squiggles one might imagine (zoom in!). After all of that important work being a border it unceremoniously enters Vermont as a plain old river only to dump into the Connecticut river.
Which brings us to the shape of upper Vermont. They could have stopped at Hall’s river and edge of Canada, but instead continued along the west side of the Connecticut until that crossed the latitude of lower Canada/upper Vermont.

Making a route in Ride with GPS and noticed it passes Terrible Mountain in Vermont, elevation 2,882ft. Wikipedia says this is probably what settlers named it due to terrain. There is the remains of a crashed airplane on top from 1968.

Ooooh. Major thunder boomer with a light ️ show in Vermont. It’s pitch black dark, and absolutely fabulous. Being in a narrow valley, it gets deeply dramatic.

However, I think Maman Nature is thoroughly and properly pissed off about the energy, climate and conservation travesties in The Big Ugly.

This state has nearly half a billion acres of National Forest. Knowing that the Idiot King is eying these lands to make a profit is untenable on all levels.

Kid and I drove to the north country of Vermont to ride some Lamoille rail trail with a work buddy and his son. Since they live near it we managed a car drop so the kids (ahem) got a mostly flat/downhill 26 mile ride. ';^)

Tight bend in the river. It’s a beautiful day with mostly blue skies and hit got into the 80’s (F) by the time we were done.

Checking out Vermont Lamoille Valley Rail Trail route with street view and found the guy who’s biking and recording it, along with a unicyclist. They currently don't hide the "invisible selfie-stick" from shadows.

I’m not sure exactly what this is meant to do, but it does do a lot of different things depending on cranks and knobs and more.

An old typewriter (German?) where you move the pointer to a letter then press button to type that letter

An elaborate machine for performing multiple operations for creating a part. There’s lots of big metal handles, belt slots, and a whole “keyed”/programming system at one end to push certain things at given times of the cycle

One of these days, I'll get around to formally pointing out that the Euro symbol really is actually engraved at E04 on (according to Currys) most U.K. keyboards, like you used to have it in the U.K. keyboard layout back in 2014.

Yes, a few keyboards have it engraved at D03. Microsoft's U.K. (normal+extended) layout for Windows makes it Level 3 shift + E04, however, as engraved on the majority.

More photos from yesterday. Sunday I started putting “bags" on the bike, to see what kind of rig I could make for bike packing. Surprised the little frame bag I sewed was just the right size for tent poles and stakes. Panniers from 80’s aren't waterproof, but held tent/fly which don't need that? Sleeping system in wp case on rack. Front bag for food and clothes, top frame bag snacks. It was pretty heavy, especially going up hills, but also nicely balanced.
