Then I broke it and the basic part works but not the network game - it starts but can never find a network. It does work perfectly under an old version of Windows in a VM like <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/VirtualBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VirtualBox</span></a>.</p><p>Good luck!</p>

Gonçalo Ribeiro<p>A problem I have is that since it's <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Virtualbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Virtualbox</span></a> saving the capture, I don't have it loaded in real time in <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Wireshark" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wireshark</span></a>. It would speed things up to see the captured packets and game side by side in real time...</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/games" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>games</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/pcgaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pcgaming</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/trains" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>trains</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/LEGO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LEGO</span></a></p>
Gonçalo Ribeiro<p>So I tried a few things, namely switching Virtualbox network modes. But I could not see packets between the VMs.</p><p>I imagine when traffic is between VMs <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Virtualbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Virtualbox</span></a> is not putting the packets in the TCP/IP stack where <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Wireshark" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wireshark</span></a> on the host can see them. Only when the traffic crosses to the host or the network beyond does Wireshark (or <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/tshark" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tshark</span></a>) see it.</p><p>I don't want to capture traffic on the VMs themselves (having to install Wireshark or something else on Windows 98...).</p><p>So I searched around and found the article below in the Virtualbox wiki on network tracing.</p><p>You can essentially configure the NIC on each VM to capture all packets and log them to a pcap. So this is what I'll use.</p><p><a href="https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Network_tips" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">virtualbox.org/wiki/Network_ti</span><span class="invisible">ps</span></a></p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/games" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>games</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/pcgaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pcgaming</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/trains" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>trains</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/LEGO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LEGO</span></a></p>

OMG! Ubuntu!<p>Linux App Release Roundup: May 2025</p><p>May saw another sizeable set of Linux app updates, including a big update to system monitor tool Mission Centre and long-awaited version bump to system cleaner BleachBit. We also got new versions of web browsers Mozilla Firefox and Vivaldi; the NordVPN Linux app gained a GUI; and more — but they weren’t the only releases of note. That’s why I do these Linux app release roundups: I like to highlight app updates that didn’t warrant a headline of their own, but are still worth knowing about. As always, if you hear about a notable app update I haven’t covered, tips :sys_more_orange:<br><a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/News" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>News</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/AppUpdates" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AppUpdates</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Inkscape" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Inkscape</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Lrr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lrr</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Virtualbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Virtualbox</span></a> </p><p>:sys_omgubuntu: <a href="https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/06/linux-app-release-roundup-may-2025" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/06/linux-</span><span class="invisible">app-release-roundup-may-2025</span></a></p>

Professor Code<p>Does anyone know why the instructions for installing VirtualBox on Linux are so terrible?</p><p>It's especially bad for RPM-based distros like Fedora across the board. Ubuntu!<p>VirtualBox 7.1.8 Adds Support for Linux Kernel 6.14</p><p>Ubuntu 25.04 is out this week and many will be turning to virtual machine to test, trial or tie the release into their development workflows — perfect timing for a new version of VirtualBox, then! Oracle today (April 15) issued the fourth maintenance update in the current VirtualBox 7.1 series. No new features were added but a flurry of bug fixes, stability boosts and integration buffs are present, which users across all supported OSes will benefit from. For Linux users frustrated at flakey wireless network adapter detection in earlier releases, the 7.1.8 update fixes the issue. Similarly, anyone ticked off :sys_more_orange:<br><a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/News" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>News</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/AppUpdates" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AppUpdates</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/VirtualMachines" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VirtualMachines</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Virtualbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Virtualbox</span></a> </p><p>:sys_omgubuntu: <a href="https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/04/virtualbox-7-1-8-brings-support-for-linux-kernel-6-14" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/04/virtua</span><span class="invisible">lbox-7-1-8-brings-support-for-linux-kernel-6-14</span></a></p>
