Who started their programming journey with Visual Basic?
It sounds about right, though IDK about the $$$ part.
The only "error"/deviation I ever saw, if I remember correctly, was when the formula for counting cells with content started to count "" [nothing/empty] like " " and "0", erroneously as 1.
Old formulae (usually) continue working. Some time back, I had to verify that the calculations in a spreadsheet from 1995 were still correct. They were (b/c of now posterior human intervention .)
#VisualBasic,...
IIRC, any given AMPS antenna could only handle about 400 #mobile phone calls at once, and there were usually three antennae spanning the 360º around a #cellular tower. Busy areas often dropped phone calls as users were handed off between antennae.
Hmm, the #Wikipedia inverse Erlang-B #VisualBasic function bears a striking resemblance to my 1994 code… (5/6)

I had previously whipped up an #Excel #VisualBasic for Applications (#VBA) Erlang B function to calculate #cellular tower quality of service (#QoS), so my other big project was modeling #Comcast Cellular’s network call capacity for an overdue upgrade from the (analog!) #1980s-era Advanced #Mobile Phone System (AMPS).
My first corporate #programming lesson: toy code will be expanded regardless of scalability. (4/6)
»Parser library using nom for VB6 (projects, forms, designers, etc).
VB6Parse aims to be a complete, end-to-end parser library for VB6. Including.«
It was a very, very, very long time ago when I had to extend and correct VisualBasic code, now I can also do it via Rust. Admittedly, the project is very young and I don't want to have to use it, but I understand why it exists.

Started with #Commodore Vic-20 - at school, we learned graphical #LOGO on PETS and Apple IIe's... crashed the school Unisys ICON network far too often...
Headed to college, *thought* I would be heavily involved in, electronics design, and engineering - instead, it was #programming.
First was #VisualBasic 1.0; next, Borland #Delphi 1.0 / #ObjectPascal - still dabble with #FreePascal #Lazarus, a smidge of #Java, a lot of #CSharp and some #Python.

I never get why people hire for #dotnet positions, when #csharp is the only relevant language of the three (#csharp, #F, #VisualBasic).
I guess it sounds cooler.
RCR Episode #265: Poolside computing arrives. 1965 brought us Moore's Law, the PDP-8, and a Programma 101 computer you can use by the pool or in the bathtub. We also talk Visual BASIC, Xerox Alto, Globus, LZW, and more!— https://rcrpodcast.com/2023/05/19/rcr-episode-265-poolside-computing-arrives/
OK then, time for an #introduction
Hi, I'm Andy. I started my technology journey with a ZX Spectrum 48K. I learned #BASIC. Later I moved up to the Spectrum 128K +2. A few years before starting college, I taught myself #VisualBasic 5 in the bath (I didn't have a PC, just a book). My first computer was a Cyrix 686. At college I learned #HTML (not CSS that wasn't really a thing). Since then I have taught myself #PHP and #Javascript and I have a million courses on Udemy to learn other stuff.
Who me? Just a #Maker, IT Consultant and "all-around-#nerd".
I grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons, original #StarTrek re-runs, reading #Fantasy & #SciFi (not SyFy), lots of #Lego and eventually graduated to #RPG and #tabletop gaming.
My first computer was a #Commodore Vic-20 - at school, we learned graphical #LOGO on PETS and Apple IIe's... crashed the Unisys ICON network often before getting my first PC - grudgingly - really wanted an #Amiga.
Eventually, it was time for college - I *thought* I would be heavily involved in the physical aspects of technology, circuit design, and hardware engineering - instead, I gravitated to #programming.
My first professional #programming language was #VisualBasic 1.0; eventually, jumping into Borland #Delphi 1.0 and #ObjectPascal - still dabble with #FreePascal #Lazarus, a smidge of #Java, a lot of #CSharp and some #Python. My #JavaScript is ancient...
@thePunderWoman Ok, true story related to this:
I got my programming start in #VisualBasic and when I first started adding assets to an app I didn't know where to put them and didn't understand the directory structure or file path resolution.
I found the "bin" directory which contains the built executable in #VisualStudio and interpreted that as "a bin or container of all your files", so I dropped my assets into there.
This was also before I learned about source control, so thank god I didn't know how to clean a project, or else it would have deleted all my assets too. I had no idea how dangerously I was living...
