As expected, @osm_fr (OpenStreetMap France) has bid to host #StateOfTheMap 2026 in #Paris, #France :
https://wiki.osm.org/State_of_the_Map_2026/Call_for_venues/Paris
I expect this bid to be successful and if so, this would make it the first time that #Wikimania and @sotm will be hosted by the same country, let alone a city, in the same year!
Registration for #Wikimania 2025 is now open!
Wikimania #Nairobi will happen from 6th through 9th August with pre-conference activities on the 5th August.
This year Wikimania turns 20! Join us in celebrating two decades of collaboration, knowledge, and community! Whether you're a longtime #Wikimedian or just getting started, this is the moment to connect, learn, and be part of something bigger.
For information on registering, check out https://w.wiki/EUJp
À #Wikimania au Cap y avait des épinards frais fris au petit-dej et j'ai jamais réussi à refaire la recette
Here is that #Wikimania submission: Achieving more together: free knowledge as a bridge for #collaboration between #Wikimedia and other #volunteer initiatives. Unfortunately, they're using a non-public review process again this year.
If you're involved in #volunteering activities and haven't considered #Wikipedia or its sister projects as potential partners yet, now is a good time to give that a thought, and I'd be happy to think along.
@liaizon Most of my follows from 2010 are still active too!

@WikiSignpost @sal @wikimediaDE @belett @bzg @gpaumier @CristianCantoro @aklempert @eloquence @ragesoss @lyzzy @kat @notafish @metasj @hexmode etc. (and Evan and Brooke of course).
(I initially only registered @wikimediaitalia, promising I'd personally remain anti-social, but changed mind at #Wikimania 2010 and registered an account for myself too.)
Should I be the old alumni asshole who says in response to the #Wikimania CFP “where is the track on doxxing of editors, the end of the first amendment in the US, impending threats in other jurisdictions, and what the movement might do technically and socially to respond to authoritarian states”?
It’s not a bad set of CFP topics but I suspect that at least to Americans (the source of money and hosting for Wikipedia!) it reads like something from a very different, more optimistic timeline.

(Well, I hope @osm_fr bids again for #SotM2026 and wins it so that #Paris gets to host #Wikimania and #StateOfTheMap in the same year!)
Bravo moi.
I'm thrilled to share that a tool I co-developed, View it!, won the #Wikimedia Coolest Tool Award at #Wikimania 2024!
Coolest Tool Award: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Coolest_Tool_Award
View it!: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/View_it!_Tool
View it! is a suite of tools to help users on Wikipedia and its sister sites discover freely licensed media. It includes a user script that injects a gallery of relevant photos at the top of articles across all Wikimedia sites (#Wikipedia, #Wikidata, #Wikivoyage, etc.). It also provides a web portal (https://view-it.toolforge.org/?q=Q192272) to search for media by Wikidata ID, as well as an API that simplifies querying structured data on Commons. On Wikidata, View it! has helped users add images to over 5,000 items to date.
