Here is that #Wikimania submission: Achieving more together: free knowledge as a bridge for #collaboration between #Wikimedia and other #volunteer initiatives. Unfortunately, they're using a non-public review process again this year.

If you're involved in #volunteering activities and haven't considered #Wikipedia or its sister projects as potential partners yet, now is a good time to give that a thought, and I'd be happy to think along.

Achieving more together: free knowledge as a bridge for collaboration between Wikimedia and other volunteer initiatives Language: English This session explores collaborations between the Wikimedia ecosystem and other volunteer-driven communities. We'll examine how diverse initiatives, from climate action to cultural preservation, can leverage Wikimedia's resources for knowledge sharing. Many groups already collect and share valuable information, like indigenous farming techniques or cultural heritage. We'll discuss how to bridge these efforts with Wikimedia projects, maximizing impact. Despite existing connections, many opportunities remain untapped. Should I be the old alumni asshole who says in response to the #Wikimania CFP “where is the track on doxxing of editors, the end of the first amendment in the US, impending threats in other jurisdictions, and what the movement might do technically and socially to respond to authoritarian states”?

It’s not a bad set of CFP topics but I suspect that at least to Americans (the source of money and hosting for Wikipedia!) it reads like something from a very different, more optimistic timeline.

View it! is a suite of tools to help users on Wikipedia and its sister sites discover freely licensed media. It includes a user script that injects a gallery of relevant photos at the top of articles across all Wikimedia sites (#Wikipedia, #Wikidata, #Wikivoyage, etc.). It also provides a web portal (view-it.toolforge.org/?q=Q1922) to search for media by Wikidata ID, as well as an API that simplifies querying structured data on Commons. On Wikidata, View it! has helped users add images to over 5,000 items to date.
