I know a lot of people switched to the new #Adwaita fonts right after their conception, but I've actually sticked with Cantarell 'till the very end except for some light testing. Just upgraded to the latest Fedora beta with the new fonts, and it's a whole new world!

This is the culmination of years of discussion and research by many people, but @monster deserves a special thanks for spearheading this particular solution and pushing the initiative over the finish line once and for all.

if there are any #GNOME designers/artists (gnomes? gnome heads? gnomish sourcerers? gnaphic gnesigners?) seeing this, does it comply with the HIG in your opinion? what would you suggest changing if not?

the cheesecrater icon uses the standard rustacean image, which doesn't have that smooth, rounded look the HIG usually suggests, but i lack the skill to make a "blobby" version of ferris. :ferris_og:

the crates browser, with its triple-pane layout (third screenshot), is the most complicated of them, but it's based on the design of the crates.io website, which displays the readme alongside a right-aligned "metadata" pane.

(also: either it's very hard to write descriptive alt text for UI design screenshots, or i am very bad at it. possibly both.)

cheesecrater's home page. it has a sidebar with three actions. each action consists of a large icon, a bold title, a subtitle, and one or two buttons. for example, the "search" action has a loupe/magnifying glass, the title "search", the subtitle "find crates on crates.io", and a "search" button. the main content panel consists of a colourful icon (using the GNOME colour palette) on an adw::StatusPage. the title is "welcome", and the subtitle is "select an action to get started".
cheesecrater's category browser. the sidebar is a tree of categories, each with a bold title, two-line description, dimmed label counting the number of crates in that category, and a small icon. the main content consists of the selected category's name, icon, and description, its parent and subcategories (if any), and a boxed list containing two action rows. the first is "show crates", with a right arrow as a suffix, and the second is "view on crates.io", with the external link icon as a suffix.
the crates browser interface. it's a triple-panel layout. the left panel (sidebar) is a list of crates, with bold title, dim version number, and two-line description. the middle panel is the crate's README in a webkit view. the rightmost panel (utility pane?) is the crate's metadata, such as its title, latest version, total downloads, and owners.

Anyone on COSMIC able to show me what the theming does to my Home Assistant app? I don’t have an install around right now, but I’m curious how the (off by default) GNOME theme override stuff works in conjunction with in-app user-set theming.

A project I'm working on has surpassed 200 stars on GitHub and it is not even finished yet.

Therefore, to give it even more pressure on me to finish the first version of this app, here is me introducing to the fediverse Cartero, a #GTK HTTP client to test web APIs and make requests graphically.

It is written in #Rust and it uses modern GNOME technologies such as #Adwaita and Blueprint.

Here is the canonical screenshot for the current nightly version as of this post.

Manuel is working hard on a new version of Apostrophe! It's the long-awaited port to GTK4, Libadwaita, and the other awesome new stuff ✨

The new version is a significant overhaul, so testing and filing bugs is appreciated!

Install the beta by adding the Flathub Beta repo:

And then install the app:
