"The people of #NewYorkCity proved that a movement powered by hope, courage, and working people can beat the money of billionaires," said one Mamdani supporter.

"#Affordability was a key focus of #Mamdani's policy platform and messaging, with the #Democratic state assemblymember calling for an immediate rent freeze for all of the city's rent-stabilized tenants, the creation of a network of city-owned grocery stores focused not on profits but on "keeping prices low," and free childcare.

Mamdani proposed funding those and other priorities with a higher tax rate on corporations and city residents earning more than $1 million per year—fueling the backlash his campaign faced from the ultra-wealthy."

Common Dreams · Zohran Mamdani Delivers Stunning Blow to 'Billionaire-Backed Status Quo' in NYC | Common Dreams"The people of New York City proved that a movement powered by hope, courage, and working people can beat the money of billionaires," said one Mamdani supporter.

"Every city department, from planning to finance and even public works, has a role to play in improving the system. These departments are filled with staff who are most familiar with the current system and can help address places where it is broken.

This reform can occur from the bottom up with the resources our cities have today. When that happens, we'll do more than address housing affordability."

"Who asked for this? Who voted for this? Who will resist?"

Have fun paying for muskrat and google and bezo's energy and water usage. You know they're not going to. And if there's not enough water for you and them? Guess who is going without! I'll give you a hint - it's not them.

"I feel bombarded by articles on the U.S. housing crisis, which inevitably display suburban tract homes sprawling across the landscape or promote skyscraper apartments instead. I look at these patterns on the landscape and think, “What an utter waste.” We are doubling down on a way of life that has no possible good future."

Absolutely.

If you aren't paying your employees living wages, you're nothing but a plantation owner in drag who is cosplaying "business owner" because you're incompetent and/or greedy. You are a sh!t person.

People have a basic human right to living wages for each hour of their life that they have to give to your business. They can't get that hour back, and you don't deserve it.

You don't deserve to live off of other people's work.

A lot of planning and zoning offices across the US apparently think it's still 1995, and that snout houses and mcmansions are or should be the norm to build.

That is a very outdated and short-sighted philosophy.

They're trying to preserve an aesthetic that was frankly ugly to start with, and not what people or the communities actually need.

It's time to create realistic norms & affordable housing.
