Disturbingly, people are given just 20-minute windows at the aid centres to get their hands on whatever is available, such as food parcels. Once that 20-minute period ends, shooting often starts. That is one of the reasons we’re seeing large numbers of people dying at these centres.

Despite the danger, people feel that they have to go to the sites. If they don’t, their children will not eat.

Aid seekers given just 20 minutes at GHF-run sites to find supplies

Aid distribution centres run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) are set up very close to where Israeli forces are stationed, with their tanks, armoured vehicles and surrounding snipers. So when large crowds gather, they are vulnerable to Israeli fire.

“The newly created so-called aid mechanism is an abomination that humiliates and degrades desperate people,” Philippe Lazzarini said at a news conference in Berlin. “It is a death trap costing more lives than it saves,” he said.

More than 450 people have been killed and nearly 3,500 injured by Israeli fire while seeking aid since late May – many close to GHF sites.

Israeli attacks have killed at least 50 aid seekers in Gaza so far today.

Hungry crowds gather a food distribution centres in Rafah or the Netzarim Corridor. So far, 13 aid-seekers have been shot dead today. They are among 30 people killed by Israel’s military since the early hours.

Netzarim was built by Israeli forces on what used to be a vibrant Palestinian neighbourhood with vast agricultural land. It is now a field of rubble for the Israeli “security corridor”.
