I had been planning to buy (yet another) #Mac (this time, a #Mini.) But enough with feeding Tim and friends’ grotesque appetite for 💰 (and putting up with high charges for low quality, if shiny, software).

I am going to install a lightweight #Linux desktop (any recommendations?) on my 2011 #MacBook #Air and see how far I can get interoperating with all my data currently held hostage in the #Apple #monoculture. Will report my findings here.

Our project this weekend was to build framing for top to bottom screens in the upstairs windows, b/c the windows only came with half screens.

Apparently, none of the "window experts" who put in replacement windows in this neighborhood had any idea how double hung windows are actually supposed to work.

These windows are so old we can't even figure out who made them. So, we're improvising.

If you only have a screen that will cover half the window, it doesn't work. If you only raise the bottom, you are trapping hot air in the top of your room. If you only lower the top, you don't get any cool air intake. Any dumbass that tries to sell you replacement windows with only a half screen is ignorant, and if they hassle you about full screens, walk away. You don't want to buy from morons. If your windows have been caulked or painted so that both sashes are not operable, you need to fix that. Being able to open the windows properly will save you a lot of money on A/C costs.
