This Is My Glasgow<p>The former Cook and Sons Saw Manufacturers Building on Elliot Street in the Anderston area of Glasgow. Built in the 1870s using polychromatic brickwork, it's a prime example of Glasgow's mid-Victorian industrial architecture.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/anderston" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anderston</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/polychromaticbrickwork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>polychromaticbrickwork</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/industrialheritage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>industrialheritage</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/industrialarchitecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>industrialarchitecture</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>A pedestrian walkway passing above 21 lanes of on-ramps and off-ramps to the M8 motorway in the Anderston area of Glasgow. It's some fifty feet in the air, is very exposed to the environment (particularly the howling gales and driving rain that are not exactly uncommon in Scotland), and took about 50 years to complete. Probably not the city's best bit of urban planning.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/m8" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>m8</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/urbandevelopment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>urbandevelopment</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/anderston" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anderston</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/urbanplanning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>urbanplanning</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>And is it wrong to object to an advertsing mural when it's new, but celebrate it as a much-loved ghost sign if it survives long enough to become an old and faded reminder of a time long past? I have my own quite strong (and I'm not too sure entirely logical) opinions on this, but I'd be interested to hear what others think to see if it's the same as I do.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/murals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>murals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/streetart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>streetart</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowmurals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowmurals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/anderston" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anderston</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/mcdonalds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mcdonalds</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowtoday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowtoday</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>A question for you, Glasgow: what do you feel about this new mural going up on Washington Street next to the Kingston Bridge? There's nothing clever about it and it's purely a McDonald's advert. If, as a city, we say murals are good and bring colour to the streets, should be just accept murals that are simply massive painted versions of advertising posters? Should such advertising require planning permission? </p><p>Cont./</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/murals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>murals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/streetart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>streetart</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowmurals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowmurals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/anderston" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anderston</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/mcdonalds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mcdonalds</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>James Salmon and J. Gaff Gillespie's beautiful 1899 Glasgow Style Savings Bank building on Argyle Street in the Anderston area of Glasgow. It was one of the few older buildings in the local area to survive the destruction brought about by the Anderston Comprehensive Development Area of the 1960s.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/anderston" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anderston</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/artnouveau" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artnouveau</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowstyle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowstyle</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Love this decorated junction box on Argyle Street in the Anderston area of Glasgow. It celebrates the local Verreville and Delftfield Potteries, both established in the 18th Century, and was created by Little Book of Transfers in conjunction with the Yardworks Grid Project. I especially like the pottery-themed take on the Glasgow coat of arms on the central plate.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/streetart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>streetart</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/finnieston" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>finnieston</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/anderston" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anderston</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowhistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/mural" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mural</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowmurals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowmurals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowstreetart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowstreetart</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ceramics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ceramics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/pottery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pottery</span></a></p>

This Is My Glasgow<p>This stump is all that remains of what was probably the second oldest tree on Argyle Street in Glasgow. The hornbeam was close to 50 years old and was felled without warning despite concerns and efforts of the local community. It was also felled in the middle of the bird breeding season when cutting down trees should be avoided unless necessary for safety reasons. </p><p>Cont./</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/trees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>trees</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/conservation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>conservation</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/urbandevelopments" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>urbandevelopments</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/anderston" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anderston</span></a></p>

This Is My Glasgow<p>I love this new decorated junction box on the corner of Argyle Street and Kent Road in the Finnieston area of Glasgow. It's a homage to the old Anderston Rice Mill on nearby Washington Street, and amongst other things, it features a mosaic of a cat hunting mice around its base. It's by Fiddly Mosaics and is part of the programme run by Yardworks. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/streetart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>streetart</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/finnieston" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>finnieston</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/anderston" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anderston</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/junctionbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>junctionbox</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/mosaic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mosaic</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ceramics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ceramics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowstreetart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowstreetart</span></a></p>
