The #NationalWeatherService is struggling with staff cuts as a busier-than-usual #hurricane, #tornado and #wildfire season begins. After losing /they were fired/ 600 of its 4,000 employees this year, the agency is closing some #forecast offices overnight, launching fewer data-collecting #weather #balloons trying to fill some critical vacancies w other govt scientists. #NWS issues #storm warnings #heat advisories, which local emergency officials rely on 2 plan safety measures such as evacuations.

Excited to share that one of my RNC balloon pictures has been Selected for the American Photography 41 book this year. If my count is correct, this is the 10th time my work has been in the book, which aims to highlight the best American photography in 2024. A big thanks to the judges, Mark and the team at AI-AP, and especially to editors Jane and Aeriel at Bloomberg Businessweek for twice taking my wacky pitch for this story. After 8 years, very glad to have finally gotten to photograph how the balloons get dropped at a convention!
