Here's an old photo of Chicago from a family album - not sure of the exact date, but likely around the 1920s-1930s. I think I see the Tribune tower, and maybe 333 N. Michigan Ave, but not sure where to go from there. Feel free to chip in if you spot any clues or if you know Chicago enough to locate it! #history #photography #chicago #chicagohistory

Edit: We may have figured it out - 25 E Washington St, the Marshall Field Building. Still not sure *when*, but we have *where* at least.

I first heard of it in Ben Hecht's memoir and, thinking it might be just journalistic mythological lore, sought to confirm it. There is a December column in the Chicago Tribune by Burton Rascoe mentioning it and this same author mentions it again in his own memoir. The Chicago Herald and Recorder isn't anywhere digitised but the Chicago historical Society has a microfilm of the 1919 print run. #Chicago #microfilm #ChicagoHistory #VicenteBlascoIbanez #BlascoIbanez #Literature
