Kyle Telechan<p>Here's an old photo of Chicago from a family album - not sure of the exact date, but likely around the 1920s-1930s. I think I see the Tribune tower, and maybe 333 N. Michigan Ave, but not sure where to go from there. Feel free to chip in if you spot any clues or if you know Chicago enough to locate it! <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/history" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>history</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/photography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>photography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/chicago" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chicago</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/chicagohistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chicagohistory</span></a></p><p>Edit: We may have figured it out - 25 E Washington St, the Marshall Field Building. Claudia Dias<p>I first heard of it in Ben Hecht's memoir and, thinking it might be just journalistic mythological lore, sought to confirm it. There is a December column in the Chicago Tribune by Burton Rascoe mentioning it and this same author mentions it again in his own memoir. The Chicago Herald and Recorder isn't anywhere digitised but the Chicago historical Society has a microfilm of the 1919 print run. <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/Chicago" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chicago</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/microfilm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microfilm</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/ChicagoHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ChicagoHistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/VicenteBlascoIbanez" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VicenteBlascoIbanez</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/BlascoIbanez" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BlascoIbanez</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/Literature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Literature</span></a></p>

David Wells<p>Here’s the original photograph, for comparison. My grandpa was a farmer in North Dakota who raised Aberdeen Angus cattle, and he would take the train to Chicago for the national cattleman’s convention. I can imagine him walking the sidewalk at about the same time this photo was taken. </p><p><a href="https://dizl.de/tags/ChicagoHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ChicagoHistory</span></a> <a href="https://dizl.de/tags/ChicagoPhotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ChicagoPhotography</span></a></p>
