theguardian.com/politics/2025/; theguardian.com/society/2025/j. The Government may have got its wretched Bill into law, but we #disabled people will continue the fight against it, & we'll never forgive them for their cut in #disability #benefits, forcing more of us deeper into #poverty. There can be no doubt that they have placed themselves in breach of the terms of the UN Convention on the #Rights of Persons with #Disabilities, to which this country is a party.

Adelaide 2011/12 neighbour called police for welfare check when I was on holidays.

Yes, I admit it was embarrassing to hear at uni that the police had been looking for me.

This year in BNE, RE told judge I “chose” to live “that way” (possum in roof) after being refused assistance for my #poverty #disabilities & exhaustion from all providers, #auspol & NPO.

Judge agreed.

#Republicans scrambled to respond, many politically attacking the #nonpartisan #parliamentarian, while #Democrats said it would be devastating to the #GOP package.

Sen. #RonWyden, the top Democrat on the #Senate #Finance Committee, said the GOP proposal would have been as much as a $250 billion cut to the #healthcare program, “massive #Medicaid cuts that hurt #kids, #seniors, Americans with #disabilities & working families.”

So a little devious shitty thing is happening right now and we know it's shitty because the Labour whip just resigned.
She resigned because she is the disabilities shadow, and the party are trying to push through the welfare reforms before the investigation is going to be complete on the effects it'll have on the people affected.
It's also woefully underestimated the financial cut.
They told us £4.8b. Nope. It's closer to £9b.

Please email your mp if this is a concern for you. Because unless they're in the inner circle or labour folk wanting to support the changes, they may not realise.

"The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) filed a lawsuit on behalf of 17 state domestic violence and sexual assault organizations on Monday, arguing that restrictions the Trump administration has placed on grants are illegal and conflict with requirements laid out in the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)."

Are disabilities and unpaid carers among the final frontier in the ongoing struggle for equality? This is a serious question for all voters and for anyone who is considered 'political'.

Despite the Equalities Act 2010, across the UK there are organisations like the disabilityunion.co.uk, dpac.uk.net and community-tu.org who are giving clear voices to people with disabilities.

Say what you want about #scotus. Today, the court ruled unanimously on the #disability #rights case, A.J.T. v. Osseo Area Schools.

The court has reaffirmed that #students with #disabilities are entitled to an #education free from #discrimination. Discrimination in #schools is plainly illegal, even if it is unintentional.

Additionally, a higher standard of proof is *not* required in education disability rights.

During the @w3c meeting in April 2025, Shadi Abou-Zhara discussed the relationship between #accessibility standards and regulations, particularly focusing on W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (#WCAG).

He urged recognizing policymakers as key stakeholders and called for a more granular approach in standards to better guide regulations and reflect the needs of people with #disabilities.

Really wishing there was a good textbook reading app for someone with both visual and cognitive #disabilities.

I just started a new course at Colorado Christian University, and this week's reading is 7 chapters from a book called Introducing Christian Doctrine—which is pretty heavy stuff. I've been struggling just to get through the first chapter.

I tried reading in Word with JAWS, but quick navigation keys keep getting disabled, and adding comments isn’t very accessible. So I switched to the ePub version in Bookworm, which lets me add bookmarks, named bookmarks, and comments. That’s been a huge help.

For notes, I’m using Joplin, which works well for organizing thoughts in Markdown. And when I hit a sentence I don’t understand—like “propounded dogmatically” (what even is that?)—I just open Copilot in the browser and ask for a plain-language explanation.

It’s not perfect, but it’s working. I just wish there were tools designed with both cognitive load and screen reader accessibility in mind. Reading theology is hard enough without fighting the tech too.

(My degree is in computer science, but theology is part of the core curriculum.)

"In the telling of President Trump and his Health and Human Services secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., autism in the U.S. has exploded in the past decades with seemingly no explanation.

These claims skip over a mountain of data and touch on the country’s dark history around treating people with neurological and developmental differences, including within Kennedy’s own illustrious family."
