🚨Monster fishing 🐟vessels are hoovering up whole #ecosystems in #UK 🇬🇧 waters 🌊 that are supposed to be protected.🤬 I just signed a #petition calling on the new government to #SaveOurOceans from destructive fishing, by banning supertrawlers in UK Marine Protected Areas. '[T]he Romantic idea of nature as an Edenesque space helped justify policies like the forced displacement of indigenous communities to create “protected areas” devoid of human life...

'Without first recognizing the delicate entanglements we have with the world around us, these #conservation strategies are part of the antagonistic approach to #ecology that got us into this mess.'

The Baffler · De-Extinction Rebellion | Leo KimScientists want to control extinction. It will have consequences we can’t even begin to conceive of.

When you think you're doing good for nature, it could be counterproductive. Wildflowers growing on land previously used for buildings and factories can accumulate lead, arsenic and other metal contaminants from the soil, which are consumed by pollinators as they feed, a new study has found. The metals have previously been shown to damage the health of these pollinators.

💁🏻‍♀️ ICYMI: #Arizona's Petrified Forest contains #trees from 200 million years ago that turned to stone when groundwater rich in silica replaced #wood with quartz crystals. 🪵🔮

Scientists study these fossilized #ecosystems to understand which species adaptations helped survival during #climate shifts. The specialized vs. flexible trait question offers clues about current species facing human-made #climatechange. These ancient logs give us a window into #Earth's past that might help inform our future.

@david_megginson 2/2 Such promises act as a glue trap for the population. We don't learn about the suffering of the masses of cloned pigs that we abuse in animal factories. Even if the mammoths are just rapidly ageing, sick elephants: How much animal suffering. And what incalculable consequences for #habitats and #ecosystems! This is pure #supremacism, #nature as a colony to be exploited.

"Cuts of 30 to 70% are rumored at USDA next week. NIH & NSF funding is being destroyed & the agencies themselves facing cuts.

About 3,500 nonfederal entomologists depend on these agencies. We're🚨risking research that protects #ecosystems & #foodsecurity."

It's difficult to keep up with all the atrocities, but we amplify the gravity of the losing these experts, the firings, existential threats... of the #TrumpMusk admin.

Humans constantly change and even destroy #ecosystems - what happens then? It's called 'novel ecosystems'. "They now exist as self-sustaining systems. These are wild but changed ecosystems. They have passed some critical threshold which means they are unlikely to ever go back to how they were before." #Hawaii has become a laboratory for #ecologists to study such "freakosystems": bbc.com/future/article/2025040
