L'année dernière mes voisins ont abattu un gros et vieux saule pleureur qui abritait beaucoup de vie. Aucune raison particulière à part "on n'aime pas".
Suite à ce mini écocide local, j'ai décidé de planter un nouvel arbre dans mon jardin et je me suis fait offrir un mûrier blanc qui a le mérite de pousser vite et de porter des fruits que les oiseaux apprécient.
Cette année il a donné sa première récolte et j'ai pu observer, hier soir, depuis ma fenêtre, plusieurs oiseaux qui profitaient des fruits gratuits !
Évidemment la compensation est maigre et il faudra plusieurs années avant de créer un milieu aussi accueillant et équilibré que l'ancien saule des voisins mais j'essaye, à ma hauteur, de limiter les dégâts ici.
En tant que propriétaire d'un terrain, je ne suis pas uniquement privilégié, je porte aussi une responsabilité envers le vivant qui m'entoure.
Planter ce mûrier pour les animaux fait parti d'un engagement pour ce vivant. Tout comme le maintien d'un jardin punk, non tondu et "sauvage" (qui a en plus le mérite de ne rien coûter du tout en temps et en argent)

Un merle noire juvénile (ou type femelle) posé sur une branche de mûrier. L'oiseau avec son plumage marron est au milieu des feuilles vertes claires et de nombreuses mures blanches, roses et noires.
Une fauvette à tête noire (petit passereau gris avec une calotte noire et un bec fin) qui mange des mures directement sur l'arbre.

Help, what's up with my apple #tree ?

The leaves on the new growth of branches look diseased. Photo shows example, they have a white fuzz on them and they will curl up and wither. I have a feeling it spreads back down the branch throughout the year, but unsure. It usually hosts massive colonies(?) of some sort of larvae, not sure what, covered in a silk like web. Perhaps this is it? Or perhaps they are attracted to the white stuff?

The apples grow with scabs on their skins. Related?

All finished! Five baby grafted trees getting ready for some healing time in cold storage.

The grafting ended up being a bit higher than ideal, but I'm happy with how the cuts turned out.

The varieties include things like Nova Easygrow and Northern Spy :blobcatcool:

"#Gardeners and #orchardists are invited to bring their seeds, #scionwood and #cuttings to share. If you don’t have any, come anyway!

"Community members and local seed growers regularly bring an incredible variety of vegetable, fruit, flower, and herb seeds. We also regularly have over 150+ types of scionwood to share, including scionwood sourced from MOFGA’s orchards. We will also have limited quantities of #rootstock for sale. Custom grafting is available by donation to the #MaineHeritageOrchard.

"Other items for sharing are welcome such as plants, cuttings, #seedlings, hatching eggs, #kombucha and #YogurtStarters, #salves and other #homemade items.

"The day’s offerings also include gardening workshops, #FruitTree care demonstrations, vendors, educational booths, and more.
