Yes, the lawn in the back garden needs mowing, but this grackle (Quiscalus quiscula) was not going to move to let me through!
(My mower is a manual reel mower, so the noise is minimal. And I was already tired from mowing the front, so I agreed with the grackle, put the mower in the garage, and came inside.)
Glimmerwatch
This boat-tailed grackle (Quiscalus major) was hunting along the shoreline at Sabine National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana. These striking birds are found only near the coastal regions of the eastern United States—from eastern Texas, sweeping around the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, all the way north to Massachusetts.

Mystical Grackle
When we’re out walking, I’m always scanning for birds, especially species that aren’t common in the area. I spotted this blackbird as it settled beneath a distant pine tree. The challenge of photographing a bird from afar, especially while holding the camera off-hand, is that I’m never quite sure whether I’ve focused on the bird itself or its surroundings. In this case, it was likely the latter—making me almost hesitant to share the shot. Still, the iridescent blue tint on the head and tail of this common grackle (Quiscalus quiscula) is striking.

I'm transcribing a notebook from last year and encountered this. I'd labelled it "Retail Grackles". I have no idea what this means. The rest of the entry does not provide context.
