@ernie, hate to cold @ you, but, are you following this #sengLED smart light bulb fiasco? No one seems to be writing about it. Not the tech publications that promote sengled... no one. It's been days and people can't get their lightbulbs to work, esp if they were dimmed at night when they stopped working.

After a bunch of complaints to their main seller, #Amazon, Amazon finally released a statement to people that have them linked to one of their appliances. I suspect Amazon just wants to stop fielding calls about them, although they are still selling products that can't work now or be setup. #GoogleHome #iot #Alexa #homeAutomation #google #home

@Mumonkan I know the trade war has left them unable to pay 1000 Chinese employees there and there is a big protest about it.

" Employees at Sengled Optoelectronics say the company has failed to pay their wages for three consecutive months, which prompted protesters to march to the local town hall to demand a resolution on April 29.

A Sengled employee confirmed the protest in a telephone interview with The Epoch Times on April 30. “Over a thousand of us went to the town hall to protest,” the worker said. “Employees’ wages haven’t been paid for half a year.”

“Over a dozen people were arrested,” he said. "The company owes wages to over 1,000 full-time workers. We are all entitled to full benefits—pensions, retirement funds, unemployment insurance. The amount they owe is huge, but they haven’t given us any explanation."

The worker said that the factory owner owes the government a great deal of money and the “factory should’ve shut down long ago.”

Supposedly there are youtube videos about it, too.

Mmh… where should I connect an ESP8266 to my doorbell to recognize someone being at the door, the speaker or the blinking LED? 🤔
I really need that for HomeAssistant to relay the signal to my computer, I can't hear the damn doorbell with headphones on 75% of the time. 🥴 Can't modify the doorbell itself though (belongs to the landlord), so I have to use clamps and a *very* flat cable to get the signal out of that box.

It took ages to get my garage door manager working properly, and only after going back to the very very basics with the Raspberry Pi controls.

Kinda 😤🙈🤦 moment but also explained why I spent a few days with the code trying everything possible and blaming my skills I couldn’t get it running.

Turns out the culprit was just this one loose cable connection which was not visible but behind a panel.

We have a pantry. I added a door switch and automated its light a long time ago. This was one of the first things I did with Home Assistant. Lately this switch seemed unreliable. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't and I'd have to close the door and open it again to get it to work. I debugged the crap out of my Zigbee network. Root cause of the problem? Loose bulb. Yeah, I feel stupid.

Come meet the community at the #HomeAssistant Community Day this Saturday (May 24, 2:30 - 4:30PM) at the wonderful Wonderville in Bushwick!

We’ll be sharing cool setups, chatting about dashboards and automations, and hanging out over drinks and free games in this unique venue full of custom arcade machines. 🍻🕹️

Time for the midyear roadmap update! As mentioned in the State of the Open Home, we took learnings from our first roadmap to build something even more ambitious. 🤩

Refresh your memory on our past roadmap & read more about the groundwork we're laying for a truly smart home 👇🏼

Home AssistantRoadmap 2025: A Truly Smart Home through Collective IntelligenceHaving achieved the goals of our first-year roadmap, we're now introducing an ambitious new project.

I got a new smart thermostat, a Venstar ColorTouch (first photo). The reason I did so, instead of the usual Ecobee or Nest, is the local API (second photo).

That means I can control the thermostat directly, without using the cloud.

It is a feature step-down from my previous Ecobee. For instance, I miss the ability to do limited time overrides. But I think it's an alright tradeoff. The integration into Home Assistant was a snap.

We have another company joining the Works With Home Assistant program - Eve! 🥳

Eve is at the forefront of the Matter standard and focus on local control & privacy in the home. Check out the blog 👇🏼 for what devices were certified - including some firsts for the program. 👏🏻

Home AssistantEve Joins Works With Home AssistantThey have had multiple Matter-over-Thread devices certified, including a cool outdoor weather sensor and smart heating devices.

My son, the CS major, helps me program my #linux based #raspberrypi pool controller. We use #nodered because it gives a really nice little dashboard and controls all the GPIOs well.

I was looking into the code and spotted this lovely little bit of type coercion. 😃 I can completely relate to what kind of mood he was in when he probably found some stupid bug because it was dealing with the letter "0" instead of the number 0.
