Kellyann<p>I'm still pissed that I can't add or remove music from my iPod Touch. It's 17 years old, sure, but it works fine. I didn't imagine, when Apple said they were discontinuing support for iPods, that they'd actually *remove functionality.* </p><p>Though I also don't know why I'm surprised.</p><p>Do you know of any way to get music from your Mac onto an MP3 player? I don't want to use my phone or subscriptions for music, I just want to be able to add a few songs now &amp; again.</p><p><a href="https://vermont.masto.host/tags/Apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Apple</span></a> <a href="https://vermont.masto.host/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Music</span></a> <a href="https://vermont.masto.host/tags/iPod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iPod</span></a> <a href="https://vermont.masto.host/tags/MP3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MP3</span></a></p>

Seasons of Jason 🎒<p>OK, let's try this again...</p><p>I couldn't start the next 200 miles of the Oregon Coast Trail without another iPod in my pack. Picked up a refurbished (but not modded) 60GB 5th Gen iPod Classic for about $100 and it's working well so far! </p><p>Crucially, I also picked up this (can I call it vintage?) Griffin armband. Emi Jay<p>Hello, sur Linux, vous arrivez à gérer votre iPod? Declan<p>Old Apple stuff I got over this weekend.</p><p>The Mac mini server is from a friend who had it sitting in the server room at his workplace. I'll give it a power up soon to see if it works. Maybe recreate the Mac server setup that Mike had created years ago at the old workplace :)</p><p>The IIGS keyboard and 1st gen iPod were from an eBay seller. The serial number on the box matches the iPod, so that's nice. The seller didn't know if the iPod worked, so I tried it out on my 12" PowerBook G4. It works fine, except for the dead battery. It is full of Russian and Ukrainian language lessons and a Mars Volta album. </p><p><a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a> <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>apple</span></a> <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a></p>
🍋 Superball ☀️<p>So I’m freshly on Linux (Mint) and would like to manage the music on my iShuffle, to which I have an emotional attachment despite a desire to get away from Apple in general. I’d like to access my iTunes library but am willing to let it go and make a fresh start if need be—although I’m guessing iTunes is required for use of the iShuffle . . . ? I see there are ways to put iTunes on Linux, but at a glance it looks complicated. What’s my best approach?</p><p><a href="https://norcal.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://norcal.social/tags/iPod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iPod</span></a></p>

Arda Kılıçdağı<p>The foam covered it in the photos, of course, but normally, the SD card reader sits like this: (there used to be a hard disk there 😮)</p><p><a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipodClassic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipodClassic</span></a> <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>apple</span></a></p>
Arda Kılıçdağı<p>Just to be safe, I put it in the thicker chassis for now. The connector was a bit tricky, so I had to place some foam underneath. I also got an extra flex cable (the molds are slightly different) and a connector socket—let's see how that works out. Maybe this new flex will also fix the left-right balance issue specific to the flex itself.</p><p><a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/battery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>battery</span></a></p>
Arda Kılıçdağı<p>Aftermarket iPod batteries cost around 1000₺ if you could even import them (you can’t due to import restrictions). Custom 3000mAh batteries go for over 2000₺ (including taxes), while the battery I’m using costs just 55₺ today on marketplace sites. 🤡</p><p>Since these batteries weren’t selling due to lack of demand, distributors and resellers are offloading them cheaply. And because the connector is a flex + socket type, not many people repurpose them, making them even cheaper.</p><p><a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/battery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>battery</span></a></p>
Arda Kılıçdağı<p>Thanks to the SD card mod, the device will now consume less power, but I figured I might as well upgrade the battery beyond the standard capacity while I’m at it.</p><p>Normal iPod batteries are around 650-850mAh. Standard LiPo batteries have the same voltage, just connected via a flex cable to the motherboard.</p><p><a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/battery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>battery</span></a></p>
Arda Kılıçdağı<p>There’s a balance issue with the headphone jacks on the replacement ipod flex cables (probably due to capacitors on the flex). The left side is about 12% louder (yes, I tested it with stereo test music and IEMs in short bursts). Some reviews mention the same problem.</p><p><a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a></p>
