Where are all the bees and other pollinators? I'm in mid-Missouri, about 90 miles south of St. Louis. A rural area. I'm at the edge of a forest with a mix natural fields, glades and woodland. Normally the various April/May wildflowers would be humming with a mix of bumble bees and various other wild bees, wasps, flies and butterflies. This year? NOTHING. Anyone else in the midwest US noticing such a thing?

aber einen balkenschröter dorcus parallelipipedus hab ich schon wieder, diesmal von vorn :3
beeindruckende tiere.

nahaufnahme eines großen schwarzen käfers von vorne. das tier ist kompakt länglich und recht flach. sowohl kopf als auch halsschild und deckflügel sind fein lederartig genarbt und dadurch matt, die deckflügel sind zusätzlich ein wenig längsstreifig, sie glänzen auch etwas mehr. der halsschild ist genauso breit wie die deckflügel und der kopf ist nur wenig schmaler, mehr oder weniger rechteckig und trägt die augen ganz außen seitlich. auffällig sind die großen zangen- bis geweihartigen mundwerkzeuge, wegen denen der balkenschröter auch kleiner hirschkäfer genannt wird. dies ist ein männchen, bei einem weibchen wären die zangen immer noch beeindruckend aber etwas kleiner. vorne am gesicht, am mund hat der käfer eine art sehr kurzen bart, ein streifen kurzer oranger härchen .

A spotted longhorn beetle, spotted on a wingstem leaf.

We see the beetle from above. His elytra and thorax are an unusual purplish gray color, pocked with many pinprick dimples and decorated with many round, black polkadots. His legs have bulging persimmon-colored femurs, but the rest of the leg is skinny and black. From his head two long, articulated antennae arc out. they're at least as long as his body. One of them hangs off the edge of the green leaf he stands on, dangling like a fishing line into the green void below.

I found this weevil during an #iNaturalist bioblitz at the Timberlake Biological Field Station. 30 participants documented 1,200+ species over the weekend!

I think this is Genus Odontocorynus,
a member of Flower Weevils Subfamily Baridinae.
